There is no greater teacher than experience, and there is no greater experience than failure. If you want to give it a shot and take the cautioned road then your welcome to go for it. Out of the examples listed the KJW is the only one you can actually "attempt" to upgrade as it's the only one that upgrades actually exists for (that are even worth the effort). But be ready to do some serious custom work to get things fitting and functioning and have a considerable amount of time (I believe you said you don't have much) to devote to the project.
God knows I'm thinking of doing a TM AEP project and most people agree it's kinda loopy but it's what I feel like doing.
Broken Record Part. Make time to get age verified. Make a few calls and meet one before you go out grocery shopping or meet one for a coffee and shoot the shit. OR better yet arrange to get out to a game where a AV'er will be at and kill two birds with one stone. The community is clearly willing to help you and accept you as a member, it's up to you to put the effort in.
