Question regarding silencer and accuracy
Hi guys,
I am wondering if the silencers that we can purchased for Airsoft guns, affect the accuracy in a good or bad way or if the accuracy stays pretty much the same? Because I am really tempted to get a silencer for my first AEG but I am not sure, depends if it affetcs the accuracy in a negative way. Thanks for your help. |

It doesn't effect the accuracy at all, just to hide a longer inner barrel

As far as I know, some suppressors/silencers are aesthetic and some function to reduce the report of the gun. The former usually are just a tube while the latter usually have foam inserts.
Most people that add an attachment to the gun (whether it be a suppressor or something else) use it as a barrel extension so they can add a longer inner barrel. In that case, it actually helps to improve accuracy. However, I'm not sure about the effect on accuracy when just adding an attachment without a longer inner barrel. Assuming that the attachment is straight and doesn't obstruct the flight path of the bb, I'd imagine little to no effect. Totally a guess, someone please correct me if I'm wrong. |

I have a homemade silencer without a longer barrel running through it. It quiets the shot to the point where all you can hear is the mechbox firing. No effect on FPS either.

My own experience - a good length & design silencer does improve accuracy
Been playing paintball woodsball in particular. Markers currently owned X7 and SP1. They do not have silencer. But there is an underlying theory to holes on the barrel few inches before the paint exit the barrel. It so that the pressure behind the ball is gradually equalised. I do find ported barrels to be inherently less loud and accurate.
Back to airsoft - Was comapring with a friend with shorter silencer. He fitted mine which is about 2 inch longer and his shots are straight compared to his shorter silencer. Stock M4A1. My silencer has a spring core and sponge spacers inside. The sponge is cut about 1 inch and there are 5 of them evenly spaced out. Length of my silencer is 7 1/2 inches. |
