ICS gun compatibility

I been looking at some upgrades/parts and I being reading that ICS guns are not the greatest for compatibility with any aftermarket parts.

So my question is, am i go run into a bunch of problems if i buy aftermarket grips and such I've already read u can't get aftermarket receivers.

Thanks in advance

All internal parts will fit except the following:

-Anti-reversal latch
-Mechbox shell

You might want to change the motor at the same time you change the gear because ICS motors have a different angle of pinion and leads to a grinding noise if not changed, regardless of motor adjustment.

External parts can be hit or miss. The following can be fitted with little to no modifications, depending on brand and luck mostly:

-Any grip that is not ICS (require fitting all the time)
-Any stock that is not ICS (if your stock can fit over the ICS buffer tube, you can use it without any modifications)
-DBoy or JG brand front ends, and generally clone front ends. (Not a guaranty fit, but I have yet to find a clone front-end that required modifications)
-"TM" compatible front ends, reputable brands (require the receiver to be retreaded the right size, although I fitted a King Arms free float without issue on the same rifle an other King Arms front end would not fit)

Part that cannot be fitted:

-Trigger guard/bridge (it is longer than others)
-Receiver (both upper and lower, they are longer than normal and made different inside)

you might have trouble with different tappet plates and nozzles. guarder's nozzle and tappet plate seemed to do alright. but if you can use modify.

I have a DBoys front end on an ICS receiver. The threading was tight, but it fit just fine without mods. I just had to use a dremel with a brush to remove a bit of the paint from inside the rail's threading and use some silicone oil to lube it up so I could screw it on.

Hopups are also proprietary to ICS. While you can mod a regular metal hopup to fit, I prefer the ICS hopup as it's a superior design and far more stable, even if it is plastic.

I'll confirm that a Magpul MOE grip had to be lightly modded to fit the gun. I hear this is the case for most non-ICS grips.

Internals are generally good to go except the antireversal latch. From what I read, the ICS nozzle is a touch longer than a standard AR nozzle. While some say aftermarket ones fit, but I couldn't get a good air seal with a Modify or Guarder nozzle. They would knock about 20 fps off of my velocity. Reinstalling the ICS nozzle got me back up to 385 fps where it should be. I also hear that the axels on ICS gears are of a greater diameter than standard, so they don't work with standard aftermarket metal bushings. Since ICS now come with metal bushings, this shouldn't be a problem. And if you need to replace the gears, toss an extra $10 for new bushings.

alright thanks for the info, but one last question is it possible or worth it to get a metal body or should I be fine with the tinted plastic?

I was wondering the same sort of thing. Could a ICS mechbox ever drop into another gun, cuz changing springs that quick would have me so happy!

Would like to nominate that post as a perfect example of the best way to answer someone's question. It is concise, sticks to the facts and contains no trace of "flame" nor "elitism".

Kudos to Kos-Mos, well done. It is people like you, as well as many others here too, that have made this forum world famous.

That is all.

No. ICS mechbox / receivers are unique. And other than Systema, that split mechbox is unique to ICS.

No, they don't have split mechbox in the same sense as ICS. It's a different system altogether. And no, they don't fit TM receivers.

Adding a question to this: What brand of outer barrels will work? Im looking for a CQBR length one specifically with triangle iron sight.

I think, I already told you. Anyway, just in case that you forgot.

ICS is taking almost any brands on the market, it doesn't has to be ICS specific. D-boy barrel fit fine and Madbul Barrel fit fine as well but as for Madbull Barrel 10'' might need to sand down on your hop up unit. I will take a shot tonight to show you how.

All barrels will fit.

However, you might have to modify either the barrel or hop-up unit to fit.

The problem is that the slots on both sides of the chamber to receive the hop-up unit are made smaller on TM compatible guns.

You have to enlarge them on your barrel, modify the tabs on the ICS Hop-up or modify a metal hop-up to fit (you have to round the front section of the feeder tube so that there is only the tube left at that point, no square plate.
