I have a few questions.

Hi everyone I have a few questions that I'd like to get answered.

First off I am a Canadian resident and I am only interested in airsoft as a backyard sport. So pretty much I am only going to buy canadian tire and walmart guns.

Now here's my questions.

I was checking the walmart website (see link below) and I noticed that gun. So since I am going to assume that it's american I am not going to be able to import the gun. Could someone clarify this for me. Since it appears to ship to stores does this mean walmart is handling the customs. I tried to find the answer but well I am not very good at understanding legal talk.

Airsoft isn't a backyard sport . and look at aftermath . its a brand you'll get something of better quality for less then that mp5

Sorry we don't deal with walmart clearsoft on this site, and airsoft is not a backyard sport either. If you want something for just target shooting, then buy a pelletgun/airgun, it's not the same thing as airsoft.

I probably should have worded the backyard sport differently. What I meant to say is that I don't want to get very serious with it. Now what about ordering guns from walmart.com are there any problems associated with it, such as the importing laws or does walmart have some special license?

When browsing a multinational company like Walmart remember to check if they have a .ca website instead of going to their .com as items available at the .com may not be available for us here at the .ca

In regards to shipping you may have to contact an American walmart to see for yourself, although Im fairly certain they will simply refer you to a Canadian store.

Now even though the item listed is clear bodied, its very hard to say whether or not it will make it through customs if you ordered it on your own. Even though it has a clear body, customs agents generally apply the rule of "if it looks like a gun its a no no". So unfortunately its kind of one of those things that the answer could be a yes and could be a no, so the only thing I can tell you is maybe.

However, once you consider the price in Canadian dollars (169.96US x 1.06CAD) you are looking at about 181.461CAD. Once you factor in shipping from the us you are looking at around 200-210 CAD anyways. So if I may make a suggestions, if you are 18 years of age why dont you go ahead and purchase in country from a company like Velocity arms where shipping is free!

The majority if not almost all members of this website have one thing in common, we all take this hobby very seriously due to the the nature of how airsoft works with the laws in Canada.
While we may not condone cheaper products, we do understand is that people sometimes have a budget. If you limit your budget be prepared to limit your expectations in terms of quality and performance. If you just want something for target shooting, buy a pellet gun.

Someone should tell walmart to remove the word airsoft from their products, it is very misleading.

And I am going to say it again, I don't want pro equipment I just want some to try it out and see if I like it. Hence the words backyard.

Generally to my understanding the big box stores (Canadian Tire, Cabelas, SIR, Walmart) will do the work for you to get the guns in country. They have the money, resources, and connections usually so it shouldn't be a problem for them to bring in a few shipping containers worth of cheap crosman guns over the border. It's a different story if you do it yourself though since most customs agents tend to err on the side of caution (if it looks like a gun seize it and let the RCMP/CBSA appeals deal with it).

Now you could argue it and have it undergo testing and whatnot but in the end it's just a lot of headache.

Note the cheap guns you get at Canadian Tire ad Walmart won't be upgradeable with standard upgrade parts.

If you want to just plink at a summer home (outside of city limits) it might be best to get a .177 pellet gun (like an Official Red Ryder Carbine-Action Two-Hundred-Shot Range Model Air Rifle or just a simple Daisy).

If it's to game at fields that we play at (there are a variety of groups which include WWI re-enactors with strict kit requirements (must have this, or that and no substitutions), to Vietnam reenactors, to regular groups who go out and sling plastic at each other and have minimal kit requirements (mask, BDU's, boots, and water bottle and you're good to go)) a better route is to get AV'ed and drop at least $300 on a gun.

Don't get too turned off if people are a bit "elitist" (one guy got turned off since he thought that every group had really strict requirements but the problem was he was looking at the wrong group) but you should realize there is a minimum commitment just like in ice hockey sure you could go to the consignment store and get used stuff but you must have certain pieces of equipment (ice skates, helmet, stick) in order to play/join a team.

EDIT: If you want to try it out contact a local team/club and see if anyone has a gun and some equipment to rent out to you for a day and drop in. There's only so much you can learn from the internet and actually being at the field is a lot better in the sense that you actually experience it. You can talk about driving for hours on end on a forum but you'll never experience it until you actually do it. It's actually better to rent some good quality gear for a day than getting crap stuff and not liking it. There is some stuff that you need before you can go to a game but it's minimal, usually if it's a paintball field they can rent you out safety gear but you should have good hiking boots and a set of BDU's at minimum (Canadian OG-107 (Olive Drab) can be found for like $50-60 for a set from most army surplus stores)

Honestly... you can't say that for everyone.

Anyways, if you want to try it out, Id suggest finding a club or field near you and renting a gun. Then you'll know what it's really like and be hooked forever.

I would like to do that but there is a money problem. I don't have the funds to drive far and AFAIK the closest place is New Brunswick, Normally I would not have a problem driving that far but it's a long way to go for something you have never done before.

Also money is kinda tight. Hopefully I can get that worked out and then I can take things from there.

Well if you fill in your profile we could probably help you a lot more. We could point you to AV reps and games near you. Some AV'ers are willing to meet halfway (eg you live in City A but AV rep lives in City C however city B is half way in between so you both meet there).

Also there are carpools sometimes and the only cost is gas money.

I guess airsoft can be summed up like this: You know paintball right? Well if you've played milsim paintball or even woodsball it's like that except more tactically/objective oriented.

Don't worry airsoft isn't going anywhere any time soon so you've got all the time in the world to save your money. Don't do what most of the university students do and spend money on guns and have to sell them to pay for tuition/food/textbooks (or possibly rent/mortgage payments).

Like I said before, the minimum to start off (with your own gear) is $500 right off the bat for the minimum equipment (mask, gun, BDU's, a few midcap mags) and another $400-500 over the next 4-5 months (extra mags, extra battery, vest to carry mags and equipment). However if you do go the rental route it should cost ~$100 for the day (buy a set of basic OD BDU's from a surplus store, gun rental, BB's and field fee, I'm assuming you have your own hiking boots here otherwise add another $80-120).

Thanks for the reply. This seems to be kind of like hockey, as of now I spent nearly $3000 on hockey gear.

PS: I live in Nova Scotia if that helps any.
