Motor Break-in
Hey all. I have another question for you (and everyones patience with my ignorance is very appreciated )
I have a brand spanking new G&P m160 motor on the way, and i read something online about breaking in your motor before using it. Something about running it on an 8.4v battery for a few minutes or something like that. Is this true? and if it is, what is the method exactly? Thank you very much. -Brett

i dunno about airsoft motors, but in RC, when guys were running brushed motors theyd break em in by hooking up a 9v and runnng it till it died.
i also hear of running them in a glass of water, it helps "break in the brushes" |

Interesting......whoa....electric motor in a glass of water? what? wouldn't that fry it?
And to my knowledge airsoft motors are not brushless so maybe that would work, idk tho maybe they are brushless. i'll let somebody confirm or correct me first. Thanks for the input

yes in a container of water... with a small 7.2V pack or a 9V till the battery dies.
running a brushed motor in CLEAN water (aka no salt.. etc etc, some even swear by distilled) will not kill it.. and yes it will help with break in as it cleans the brushes and commutor as it wears in together. just give it a quick shot of alcohol or WD 40 when you pull it out of the water to stop the whole rust thing. honestly brushed elec motor is important.. but for airsoft unless it's a SAW type weapon that your gonna be trigger into full auto for a few minutes at a time continous .. probably won't see a big difference from a dry short break in... to a RC racing style wet overnight break in. the motors in my RC racing/go fast boats are running wide open for 15-25 mins straight at a time.. the 'perfect' motor and break in is far more important

Yes a break in is best, I showed all the guys I play with how to remove motor and adjust but plate when they got their guns. Its good if someone who knows how to properly fire and maintain goes over things with you. Inconsistent trigger pull or bad battery habits can really hamper a new players experience.
