Greasing the spring...
Hello everybody!
So my airsoft gun is shooting too high for my local indoor game, so I bought myself a new spring to install it on(Yaya)! The problem I ran into is lubricating the spring!... Like I have no idea what to use to do the job!... So I went into Canadian Tires and bought myself a "Tom's Secret Formula B-404 for all-purpose lubricant". It's a spray bottle which I'm kind of having a little doubt in it. If anyone know anything about what I'm asking, please reply... Also, would the lub I bought any good for airsoft?.... Sorry, I meant to say spray bottle.
The bottle says -Lubrication for moving parts -Loosen rusted and frozen bolts and nuts -Blocking moisture -preventing rust Which seems reasonable to be used to the spring in my mechbox... Last edited by highny; August 1st, 2009 at 04:20.. |

But to repeat the post before yours, does it say its "lithium" or "100% PURE SILICONE OIL" or not?

If it has any petroleum derivatives, it will be bad for any rubber parts you have in your gun. So, any WD-40 styled lubricant is bad for your parts.

It says its made out of USA-grown natural vegetable oils and selective additives.

You can buy white lithium grease from hardware stores for not a whole lot. Yes, there are airsoft-branded greases and oils, but honestly the white lithium you find in home hardware is the same as the white lithium at some airsoft specialty store. You're paying for the brand name, and the cute packaging it comes in. The pill-bottle like container at home hardware is the same, just make sure you do get white lithium and not something else on accident.
Do NOT skimp on the silicone oil, though. Must be 100% silicone oil. Most people usually just end up ordering a bottle or two to keep for maintenance, and that's if they even need it. Silicone oil is usually used for mags that have feed problems and need it oiled up for smoother movements. You can also use silicone oil on your hop-up sleeve to get it to fit in your hop-up unit if it's too tough without it.

Does any type of lithium work? I bought a small tube of lithium grease. It didn't have the "white" on it though.

Can't comment on that. I've always been told white lithium is your best option, since it's very versatile. You can basically use white lithium on your gears, piston, cylinder, anything that normally needs grease you can use white lithium grease on (Grease is not interchangable with 100% silicone oil). Unless there's something that white lithium has that lithium doesn't that could drastically destroy performance factors, I'd assume it's fine, however I'd wait until a more knowledgable person, such as a gun doctor, can confirm whether or not standard lithium grease is acceptable for use.

You don't need to "grease your spring".
