Is a shotgun worth it?

Hey I've been looking into getting a shotgun, my friend got a crossman one to canadian tire to dick around with and i really like the look and feel. I've found one i really like a ACM M500 (a Marushin clone). I'm just wondering if anyone has any experiences they could share with shotguns in the field, and if it would be worth it if everyone im playing with is using AEG's.

Thanks,
Mike

I have the ACM m500 3x6mm. love it.

now it's not the best weapon for outdoors against full auto AEGs but it does hold it's own. with the 3 or 5 shot, 6mm or 8mm, you get a nice spread. it shoots fairly hard. primarily works best indoors or for outdoor pistols and shotty games like we're having Sunday at Flag Raiders.

For inside use, they are worth it. As in real CQB games where your targets are within 50fts.

Getting a kill with a shotty, against AEG's, is worth the price of admission.

It's tougher, but satisfying. Best used with pistol matches as above.

I remember that I bought a shotgun specifically for one of Zeonprime's "zombie" games last year, and it was oh so worth it.

However I sold it after as I just don't normally attend events where it would be of use. But for zombie killing, oh yes, nothing beats racking a shotgun between zombie kills!

ACM M500 is a clone of the Marushin M500, not Maruzen. The Maruzens are either springers or gas with ejecting shells.

I have one (5x6mm) and I love it. I sometimes carry it as a secondary. If you're skirmishing with people hosing out hicap after hicap on full auto you'll be outgunned, but in a more milsim setup its very usable against AEGs. Like anything, you just have to know how to use the weapon you have.

I picked up a S&W M3000 shotgun with RIS (spring, clear bodied, black clip/handle/pump).

It has adjustable hop up and uses a clip, so you can pound out 19 or so rounds quickly. You can also hold the trigger down and auto-pump-fire it.

It was like $30 with a speed loader tube. It's okay for accuracy and feels solid. So if you just want one for casual plinking, I'd check it out. Cost me around $35-$40.

Yah i was looking at the 5 shot M500. What im using now is just a canadian tire crossman stinger and i hope i can get out to some games, and it will hold me over but i do want to upgrade and like i said i just love the look and feel of a shotgun. Yes, this gun will be a field and indoor gun for me until i get the funds for a aeg.

Thanks for the replies i was mostly worried about being able to keep up with the AEG's.

I have been using a TM and a UTG shotty for awhile and love em. Tho tough to use outdoor indoor they are a blast. The M500 gas ones are nice as well, but when they go down its a pain in the butt to fix if your not a technical guy like me. Plus I hate how its not very easy to reload in the middle of a firefight.

Plus they are usually more expensive and if you have the 8mm version they can HURT allot if you shoot someone too close.

The 5X6mm gas shotgun is amazing.. But MAKE SURE you buy upgraded charging arms for it... the stock ones break WAY too easily.

shotgun as a primary as an outdoor gun, I have a BLAST but I'll be brutally honest.. totally outgunned by AEG's. however if your F'n quick on your reflexes, ie target aquisition and firing before them, and you can get sneaky you can get kills. I run a very very light load out with a full length TM super 90, and a full auto glock on my leg. the shotgun is on basically a 1 point sling.

theres nothin more satisfying then poping up out of the blue on some poor enemy as he's watching the rest of your group, make him shit a brick as the shotgun goes off with no tell tale wind up.

that being said as much as I have fun with my shotgun, all I play at the moment is woodland/outdoors ... so yes I am also building an AEG... but the total and utter fun factor of learning the shotgun and the mobility is definately worth the low kill count
