Where do you go to shoot airsoft guns?

Hi all,

I'm completely new to airsoft (read: clueless) and this site has already been useful to learn some things about legality, etc.

I was gifted an airsoft gun (a SIG 552) and while I'm pretty damn excited about it, I have no idea where people go to shoot these things. Do people do paintball-style war games? For now, I'm probably just interested in target shooting.

I live in Toronto so where do people go to shoot these things without getting thrown in the back of a cop car?

If your 18 there are several places to play in and around Toronto.

The first one that comes to mind is TTAC3 http://www.fightingartscollective.com/fact/main.cfm

Brian, the owner can get you age-verrified which will open you up to the classifieds here on the site.

That being said, there are many other, both indoor and outdoor places to play. Most are paintball fields, but a few teams have private fields on Farms or woodlots

TAC3 looks like a pretty neat place, but might be a bit more involved than what I'm looking for... I think I just want to shoot at stationary targets... which is probably considered boring for experienced guys. And yep, I'm very 18+.

For stationary targets, you could always set up something in your basement or your garage. Outdoors is somewhat out of the question since you dont want anyone to mistake you for playing with a real firearm.

I set up a herman the german on a sack of rice (and tape over the holes after each use) in my garage and shoot from the hall for some distance.

Just don't eat the rice...

Yeah, I suspected my best option for targeting might be DIY at home. Living in a townhouse in the city makes it tricky to not frighten the neighbours. Maybe I'll make a trip to visit some friends outside the city

Still, if anyone knows a place where you can shoot moving or stationary targets I'd love to hear it.

I would say come to the game. There are a lots of moving target there and some of running target, you can't missed them.

Yeah but CAPS is only for pistols to the best of my knowledge. You're probably better off setting up a target at the end of your longest hall and just shooting at that.

Make an "A-frame" with a piece of tarp or something as a backstop/BB catch then put a piece of cardboard and print a paper target.

Note: Discharging an airgun (airsoft falls under this category) within city limits in areas not zoned to do such may result in a fine as you may be breaking city bylaws. Just don't get caught pretty much. I mean it's one thing to shoot pop cans in the backyard out of sight and taking all safety precautions that you can. It's another to go out on the street and have "battles" where anyone and everyone can see you. Although both technically violating city bylaws the police will probably just give you a slap on the wrist for one and actually arrest/fine you for the other, they have better things to do than fine a guy shooting pop cans with a bb gun.

Yes we do play "paintball" style "wars". They are usually at licensed paintball fields which the host and a local club or team will have worked out a deal with the owner.

I fill a small box with plastic bags and put some old parcel envelopes at the back (the ones with the bubble wrap inside) and that's enough to stop bbs (0.25) from a gun that shoots about 460 fps (with 0.20 bbs) at about 30 odd feet. I do this to plink in my basement. I also have an old mattress against the wall behind the box in case I miss. That works for me. I have to replace the box every now and then, but it still works.

Alternatively, you can check this out. It shows you how to make a more long-term bb trap.

I do something similar to aznpos531 but I line the back of the box with some cheap aluminum cookie baking pans. Now my basement is cluttered and has a low ceiling so I usually hit my friend's place where he has a higher ceiling and more distance.

Apart from the outside environment;

Indoors or Garage: I do the same with the box and place the bubble padded envelopes at the back. It absorbs the shots and you also end up collecting alot of the bbs inside the envelope. I also set up paper targets with a collecting tray, a sticky putty target system, target with collecting net, sticky targets and I also even place targets on soft foam or oasis used for flower arrangements.
