Generic Chinese Brand vs Known Brand

Does it really make a big difference between a generic chinese brand or a known brand such as hurricane or GP?? Im looking specifically at the Eotech 551, 552 clones. The hurricane brand can be $200+ while a generic brand is less than $100...Does it make a big difference in terms of quality and performance?

Wasn't it a Generic Chinese Brand toothpaste that had antifreeze in it? Hmm.. I guess you get what you pay for.

Actually, that toothpaste was counterfeit Colgate, not a generic brand.

Some of them actually come out of the same factory. In general EoTech clones are plagued with issues. There's plenty of reviews on these forums and others and someone has done a comparison between a Hurricane 552 and Huang's Chinese clone.

EDIT: Damn it Crunch beat me. Don't you sleep or work or SOMETHING? :P

Beat ya to it... lol

I'll be rewriting this review in the next little to expand it to include not onlyt the Hurricane and Huang models, but the real steel Bushnell HOLOsight (EOTech 502) and real EOTech 552.

AHHHHHHHH so i just read all the posts in the link u guys have posted. So obviously, if you want the best, go for the real thing which may cost a fortune. Between Huang's and Hurricane, im getting mixed reviews. Some say they have ghosting and brightness issues, others do not.. What about this Bushnell HOLOsight? Is it better than both Huang's and Hurricane for a decent price? I dont wanna blow money on something that is unreliable, has a poor reticule, or shatters when i touch it. You feel me?

Bushnell's HOLOsight is made by EOTech for the civilian market so it's as close to the real deal as you can get. It still costs a lot but still a couple hundred less than EOTechs.

Hurricane is your best bet in terms of visibility in bright light, durability (it's well built), and value for the buck. Click on the auto brightness, and it will constantly adjust itself to optimal brightness for lighting conditions and you'll not really notice any ghosting other than in low light situations.

The Bushnell is really nice, but also hard to see in bright, outdoors conditions. Now, my Bushnell version is from 2001 and from their first runs of the product. It's rather dim in bright light conditions. It's bright than the Huang 552, but not significantly. Subsequent newer versions may be brigther, but I haven't seen it myself. However, construction is a lot more solid than any replica, as it's the real rebranded EOTech 502.

Now, if you can find a real EOTech and are willing to pay the $500-600 price tag, then that just can't be beat.

Actually, back in the day, EOTech were the engineering company, and Bushnell made ALL their sights.

Taken everything into consideration, I think my best bet is just to get the Hurricane.. I probably wont be able to afford the EOtech or Bushnell, as $200 is already pretty expensive to me for a sight.

For the Hurricane, is the reticle sharp? does the auto brightness actually provide sufficient brightness?

Hurricane's brightness is topped only by a real 552. Real 552 will actually hurt your eyes on its brightest setting. And honestly, the reticle is actually sharper on the Hurricane than the EOTech, although it's also fatter.

And the auto brightness works great. It's really quite awesome and it's a feature even the real EOTech doesn't have. I used it for 2 CQB games to date. It really shone at Op Broadsword in Picton where we had very variable light conditions from extremely dark all the way to some outdoors battles in bright sunshine. I never once had to adjust my sight's brightness. It was always ideal for whatever condition I was in.

Keep an eye on the classifieds. I managed to snag my Hurricane for I believe $175 shipped if memory serves me correctly.

1. Even though it has auto brightness, i can manually adjust it too right?

2. The only place ive seen it on sale is Metal Tech MFG for $259. Are there other locations in Canada that have it?

THANKS!

1. Yes, it can be manually adjusted. If you turn it on using the right button, it's in manual mode. Using the left button is auto mode. But as soon as you mess with the brightness settings in auto mode, it reverts to manual.

2. Airsoftparts.ca carry Hurricane sights. Only one they have listed on the site right now is the 553 and it's out of stock. Their price is $239. But like I said, watch the classifieds. They regularly appear for $200 or less.

Ahhh! Thanks for your info Crunchmaster, you have been most helpful! Anyways, I want to start a new thread regarding lasers, but im dont want to flood the NEWB section with threads all from turok_t.

I was thinking about getting a green laser to mount on my 20mm rail. What would you recommend?

i'm not sure on your last comment, but just be warned that alot of places won't let you game lasers because of potential eye damage, so make sure you really want one before purchasing
