A good starter gun?

I was looking for an MP5 SD6 just more or less because i like the style and size but i am not sure what i should be looking for and what a good price range would be. I'm open to spending in the realm of 450.00$ can. I found an MP5 SD6 for that price with some add ons but was told that the range of the stock gun is best suited for indoor action. Am i able to find a good indoor outdoor (350-400 fps) gun in that price range? What are some key things i should be looking for? I plan to play lots outside this summer and maybe more inside in the winter. I have a SIG Sauer handgun that will be my secondary weapon. Any advice is great thank you. This will be my 1st purchase so im very uncertain. And yeah i am verified just getting the info entered. So i want to get a jump on some gun info. CHEERS!!!

Max 350fps for inside, so if it's more than that you either have to have a second gearbox and swap'em when playing inside/outside, or get a second AEG.

Barrel lenght does have an influence in airsoft, but 5cm won't make a huge one. Its range and accuracy will be influenced by: hop-up, barrel quality & diameter, and BBs.

Most MP5s are prone to have selector problems.

Just something in the way the selector is designed. I'm not sure if it has something to do with the selector plate or the semi-auto cutoff lever, or both (all of which are fixable). My MP5 fires off 3 rounds in semi every now and then. Not a big deal.

hmm...i just find it interesting how it's just on the mp5s. Doesn't happen on the m4s/m16s?

Huh? Selector problems? I've been MP5-ing for a while now and I haven't had any problems there.

Accuracy on MP5's is often marginal at best, because of the short barrel length- all the more reason to invest in a tightbore barrel, especially if you end up getting a low- or mid-grade gun like a JG. The SD6 variant is also good because it offers a longer barrel length.

My recommendations if you want to stick with one AEG for indoor and outdoor is to leave the FPS at around 340-350, and juice up the ROF. I have a tuned up mechbox and a Lipo battery- FPS isn't a big deal when you've got good accuracy and a wicked ROF.

Get AV'd and you'll find an AEG you're looking for on the classifieds or on ASC's retailer pages. Other than that, you'll be looking at modding the Aftermath Broxa or Lycaon.

Its a different system then the armalite variants, MP5 selectors have an axle running through the whole gun(for the rightys and leftys) on a plastic gear giving it room to seperate and slip.

Wow lots of this stuff is way above me. This is going to be my 1st gun and i just was wondering what would be a recommendations for it in that general price range. The lengthening of the barrel sounds like an easy enough thing. To change the rate of fire what would that entail? Does 450$ sound like a good price for a MP5 SD6 with mags and a scope?

Depends on its brand...

For the ROF, a lot of things can change it... Just regreasing can help, but a motor and battery are then easier things.

Sounds like someones making excuses
Like comanche said, it's the quality of the barrel that matters, NOT the length.
How else would my little HFC pistol barrel be able to outshoot a stock M16?

Anyhow, better example, Amos and I both have PDI barrels, his is that ridiculous like 650+ barrel or something huge, mines just a little 430mm and despite having a 70fps advantage over me we get the same accuracy and I'm only 15 feet short of his max range

I don,t think you want a scope on a MP5 maybe a red dot. or a HWS !

ASC for learning about parts and names.

Anywhere really for upgrade parts. You can import those so go nuts. Obviously parts that are prohibited you'll have to get in country but things like Mechboxes, springs, pistons, etc. should make it through the border. The "standard" sites I've heard about are places like airsoftparts, Redwolf, Den, WGC, War4, UN Company, etc.
