Magnets + Airsoft

I've been snooping around on google and and having trouble finding and answer. Do magnets harm airsoft guns?

I'm wondering because I'm planning to make a gun strap that when folded over itself kinda like a seatbelt the magnets would hold the strap tight to the body so that the gun wouldn't flop around on the back. So when you need to fire you could quickly separate them and ready your gun.

So I was concerned that the magnets might harm the gun, should I stick with buckles?

Depending on the strength of the magnet and how the wireing is inside the weapon (as long as the wires are not twisted) it SHOULD be fine.

af all the wire in the weapon are running paralell and/or twisted.... might be a proble depending on the strength of the magnet. Could mess with the amprage.

I dont think magnets hurt guns as there are magnets on the Classic army M15's, and I think buckles would be the way to go though.

what kind of gun? why not just buy a sling? and get a weapon catch?

The guns already have magnets in them. Those motors are damn strong electromagnets.

Sorry, I wasn't quite clear on that, I plan on modifying an existing strap so it can be quickly tightened to have your hands free and quickly released into a firing position.

I don't plan on attacking the magnets to the gun but to the strap in two places, I was just worried in case contact between them occurs.

News to me, I can't see any of that happening.

And to the thread starter, no, magnets won't harm an airsoft gun at all if you use them anywhere near the gun. Using them on your strap will be fine as long as you don't keep your wallet in a pouch on the strap.

Assuming you have a steel body, and not a non ferrous alloy body, pick up rare earth magnets ( that's a type, not a brand). Probably easiest to find them at Lee Valley Tools

Funny. EMI isn't going to affect his gun at all, there are no signals, and DC won't be affected by a magnet nearby.

Anyways, case in point, his question isn't going to affect his AEG.

The amprage that travels through a copper wire will cause a magnetic field to form around the wire. If the wires are exposed to a strong enough magnet it could effect the current traveling through the wire. I doubt it would cause any problems in an AEG, but I just felt like throwing out that fact.
