Butt question
Heya all,
I painted the butt of an AUG for some project I'm working on, two days ago. (tremclad red oxyde primer) Now apparently it's taking a lot of time to cure, and I think the fact that this part is rubber is probably the reason why. Do you guys know if it's going to eventually dry out completely, or will I have to do something chemical like spraying hardener or proceeding to the next coat? It's sitting on a heater right now but it's doesn't seem to help a lot. thanks for your help! I'm expecting a lot of butt-jokes answers.

I know normal Tremclad paint never dries, it levels its self out and hardens... + Tremclad is a paint for Steel and Aluminum.. It'll most likely just flake off on the buttpad of your AUG.

It is real tough to paint butts than can have a bit of rubber in them. You might have to strip your butt and re-apply a new kind of paint. I always reccoment duracoat, because it can harden nicely.
Were you painting in a real cold area? But yeah make sure you wipe your butt off with something that will take any surface oils out, which can lead to non-curing paint. When you're done I hope we can see pics of your butt. |

Duracoat wont work for that.
Honestly the best thing I can think of would be to somehow bleach it then dye it another color.. Or use a very flexible paint... Or not paint it at all. |

i dont think you can effectivley paint rubber, due to its flexability, you would need a paint with an excessive amount of flex agent in it, there is a happy medium needed tho, too much flex agent and the paint will never harden/ adhear, too little and it will just flake off. even if you did get an even caot that didnt fisheye/ run or orange peel, the first time you brushed anything against it (shouldering your weapon, a branch, even your finger nail) would cause the paint to loose its adheshion and it would begin to flake off.
