TM Hyper 1000 motor problem

Hi there, i ordered a new motor my my hk416 as the old motor had died. Upon opening, the motor was fine, i placed it in my gun, all working nicely, then i took it out again because the wires were all tangled and then out popped these two springs from the top and now it will not work. Does anybody know how to put these springs in or how to help me on this one?

Thanks a bunch.

Those are the springs that hold the brushes to the motor which in turn provide power. Look at your old motor, they are not too hard to put back on with some tweezers or jewelers pliers.

Brushes need to be replaced after a lot of use as they wear down against the shaft of the motor. Since the components of the motor that require power are also the components that move brushes are the easiest solution. They wear down while providing power as they rub against the moving bits. There are brushless motors on the market for R/C cars and such but I have never heard of any airsoft sized brushless motors. AFAIK brushless motors are higher speed, higher torque, and a LOT more expensive. Brushes on airsoft motors rarely if ever need to be replaced. In R/C racing brushes need to be replaced periodically since they run the motors non-stop for up to 10 minutes per race and maybe a dozen races in a day where we probably use the motors for less than 3 minutes in an 8 hour game. I'm fairly heavy on the trigger compared to most players and based on ammo consumption and rate of fire my motor runs for maybe 2 minutes in a full day game. I ran my motor for 2 minutes straight once and my trigger switch melted, airsoft parts are not designed for high intensity use.

Actually it involved a car door and me trying to shoot a hole in the sheet metal...I did manage to make a 2" wide and 1" deep depression in it!

thanks lutnit for your explanation. Also, one of the brushes is sparking a lot yet the other one is not, is this due to the fact that i do not have those springs in?

Also, i am kinda bummed as i threw away my old motor as it was completely mangled, do you happen to have a picture or a link to that part of the motor as i think my springs are bent aswell, lol.

Thank you, Alex.

It would be sparking because it is not being pushed hard enough against the motor so it is arcing through the air.

You can see the springs on the brushes here:

Really you want the straight end of the spring in the groove on the steel bit of the end of the motor, wrap the spring section around the pole, and then push the bent end of the spring against the end of the brush.

thank you for the picture, it helped a lot.
Yet i am still puzzled at where the bent end should go. I have the straight end all in place tho.
