Been doing some research.
I think it's inevitable that I'll be getting an M4 (just about everyone I know has 1)...somewhere down the road at least. I've currently only got a Classic Army CA36 as something for me to fool around with. But since I want to concentrate most of my time and funds to playing around with my CA36, I want an M4 thats good to go straight out of the box.
I've come to conclude G&G would be my best bet. But what I'm wondering is what people here think about the Top Tech M4 Carbine with blowback. Is the extra money worth it? The Youtube vids show slight blowback action, doesn't look like theres any recoil, and does this mean proprietary internals?

It moves back maybe 1cm, and there is no recoil as its not a true blowback system, its more just a system to move the fake bolt (which is thin sheet metal.) The mechbox, cylinder, possibly cylinder head, and a bunch of other parts are all proprietary so would be next to impossible to replace. The plus side is a normal ver.2 mechbox can be dropped in no problem as far as I know then you just don't get the 1cm moving bolt.
Personally, I dislike G&G, I have seen more of them that are total fubar internally out of the box than I care to remember. If you want solid performance out of the box I would recommend G&P. Far better internals and externals but somewhat more expensive. CA would also be a good bet, just need to swap the spring for a higher fps, all the other internals are solid. |

CA or G&P or TM.
If I was gonna get a M4 for myself I would go with Classic Army. (And I have in the past!) |

Thanks all, much clearer picture now...there were just so many M4/M16 out there with so many other rifles based off the same platform. If my finances are right in January, might invest in 1 for gaming purposes but as of right now with my laptop all messed up (just found out it ain't working) its not possible till I find out whats going on.
Thanks all, cheers!

If you can do mechbox job or know a guntech friend, you can go with a DBoy M4. Metal receiver (yes, not the best, but better than plastic).
You would have to change only the spring and piston. First because it is too hard, usually settles very close to 400, if not over. If you want 400, you can shoot it a lot, or install a M110-120 spring (best bet). Second because the moldings are very bad and it caused a lot of failures in the guns I worked on. TM stock piston is the best bet if you have one. Any other aftermarket one will work too, but these are my favorites. If you get a gun with nylon bushings, you should change them too. If you can do the job (or have it done free), you will get a decent fieldable gun for under 400$ |

AK = V3 = Win.
I've discovered that in airsoft, the AK, M14, and P90 are key. They seem to have godly abilities.... PTWs can be nice too. If you have the cash, consider it... Just make sure you have cash to maintain the fucker. |

... and be left with a gearbox that has no upgrades for it.
Stick to the tried and true. Quote:
Working on clones is nothing but a pain in the ass, If you're gonna work on clones.. make sure you have a dremal handy. I was installing V3 AK parts into a Cyma AK74U last night.. I had to lob of large part of the cylinder head with a dremal to get it to even fit in the mechbox shell. And Cymas are closer to TM than Dboys are... Dboys also has a very high lead content in their guns... That equals a really weak gun. Sure it's metal... But remember, lead is a metal too. Last edited by Amos; December 12th, 2008 at 03:57.. |

The brand new Jing Gong M4A1.
It's an AMAZING clone of the TM M4 New Type. Fullmetal and its SOLID. Took a friggin wrench to get off the delta ring to install a free-floating RIS. Full Colt-Markings I've never been more impressed with Jing Gong. Other than that I'm curious about the new Marui M4 SOPMOD, but it'd be around $1100 landed =/ |
