Opened my first mechbox... CA v2

Well I figured I would have to do it sometime, so seeing as I have all the tools, I decided to open my mechbox and have a look. Followed the instructions off of mechbox.com and had no problems at all.
Lubrication looked good, it had metal bushings, the yellow piston(spring was not screwed to piston head...must be a CA thing.) I was expecting the spring to be attatched to the piston. Gears didn't look like cheap metal. motor was labeled high torque. Silicon wiring, nice connectors, all in all everything looked good. Gun is back together and waiting on the battery to charge and then.... the test. I hope it's going to work again. LOL
The gun is a CA53A2 by the way, released April/08

it's supposed to be like that. The only brand where I saw the spring attached to the piston was TM.

That's mostly a TM thing. Most springs arent attached to piston head and dont need to.

putting in the motor is MUCH easier on the MP5/G3 than M4s....

Yeah, I gotta charge a battery. It will be a 3 hours until test time. My main concerns are gear timing and motor height. Hope they haven't moved.

No such thing as gear timing...as long as when you put it back together you didn't start it with the sector gear teeth engaged with the piston teeth (which is kind of hard to do) or with the sector gear nub under the tappet plate fin (which would be really hard to close the mechbox)...you're good. The first shot will set the gears.

Unless you changed the shimming dramatically (or changed the gears to a different set), you're motor height should be ok. Adjust with quarter turns until you get the "deadest" sound.

I just followed the instuctions, and made sure the sector gear nub was set to the 1'oclock position, without the anti reverse lever moving on the bevel gear. tappet plate moved fine after assembly, selector switch works correctly after returning to lower. So basically now when I test fire, I check the motor height and adjust for the quietest spot and Bob's your Uncle. Unless I am mistaken.

ICS springs are also attached to the piston heads for the record. I'd also do a compression test while you have the gun open. There's nothing like closing the whole thing up to find out you have an air leak and need to take it all apart again.

gun is together , compression seemed good, didn't feel like it was leaking when I pushed on piston with finger plugging the nozzle. testing soon.. T- 30 minutes. Thanks for the info guys. I will let you know what happens

OK pulled trigger and just a clicking of the motor. So the motor needs to be set. I am on it now.

i member the first time i opened my first gearbox. it was a ca g36 v3. i member it freaked me out when i tried closing it up and it wouldnt go back together. all that was wrong was the tabs on the spring guide were misaligned and just needed a push in

i know it can be tough closing them up sometimes. helps if you have an extra hand to hold something in place sometimes. ive experienced that click or parts jamming on the test fire and its a pain in the ass opening it back up til you can make sure that everything fit in the way its sposed to when the gearbox closed.
sometimes you can get it to close fine but something in there slips out of place even though its closed up
thats why you always test fire before reassembling the whole gun

yeah going to open it again and look, it's all part of the learning curve. It's 1 pin and 4 screws and it's out(already done) takes about 2 minutes to get the box out of the gun. It is totaly sweet for diassembly/reassembly. The mechbox is all the work. I will get it right. And I'm not worried about f**king something up. It'll happen anyway somewhere down the road. It's not like I'm messing with a $15,000. race engine. LOL

edit- and of course, now one of the mechbox screws strips. Oh well get an easy out tomorrow. and the lesson will continue then. LOL I knew it was all going too smooth. Hahahaha.
edit- got screw out, F***ing pain in the ass. So I looked everything over and all looked OK, but I checked the piston and cylinder a little more closely and noticed that the O ring seems awfully loose fitting, on the piston, and in the cylinder. And it doesn't seem to provide a lot of compression. There is some, but I would expect there should be more. Maybe I should either upgrade this box now, or get a drop in for it.

And I got it back working, what I did, I do not know? I just took it apart again, put it back together again, the same way, and this time it worked just fine. Go figure.
Well I guess now that I have crossed that bridge, it is time to start thinking of experimenting, and find out how I can improve performance on this thing. Thanks all for your input guys.
