A real steel version does not exist. That's an Airsoft Surgeon custom.

It's based upon this slide/frame by SVI. Sorry, I don't have any more info other than that.

You could probably do the grip yourself, I've seen some of the custom grips in the Arnie's hi-capa thread, and they look similar.

I'm thinking of using the stock grip on my gun for practice. I wonder if anyone on Arnie's has written a guide or something....<runs off to Arnie's forums to check>

OOOooooooooooooo.... Sight Tracker!

I wonder who the manufacturer is.

Just have to combine the Slide / Sight Tracker upper with this mid-frame: http://www.prog4.com/db/product-show.asp?refno=AR1330

and you'll be that much closer to the real thing that SVI showcases:

If what I've heard from trader's airsoft forum is right. AS's frame and ProG4's stuff came from the same machineshop, only difference is branding. So in essence that is the same stuff that you and I have bought, but now they came out with newer ones...

I guess the difference now is that the one we have in airsoft form don't have the difference in color as the realsteel version(how they do that I have no idea, I guess they could cover one part while plating another?).

As I've said I am a little gutted by this, though consider this is almost twice as much for an extra barrel and slide cut I think I can feel a bit better....I am going to try out milling my own slide, I'll use my now un-used OPS MRP slide as a test piece(ouch, more money down the drain), and I've got a SD hybrid barrel on order now. It won't be quite like the RS version, but it should end up pretty unique....if I manage to do it that is...

Sure, if you're willing to pay about $1500 for just the conversion kit and the base pistol...

No, they won't. Different build structure - 2011's and 1911's are fundamentally different from the frame out. 2011 frames are three piece from a slide, metal receiver and a polymer grip. 1911's are two piece with the slide and metal receiver/grip.

... and doubled the price tag just for the inclusion of a sight tracker barrel. Ugh. So ProG4 is the brand name and not just the shop name?

I once had an SD hybrid barrel fall apart on me before, where the ported section separated from the barrel. Turns out the ports and the barrel are machined separately and then welded together afterwards. If you look inside the outer barrel at the attachment point to the ports, you'll see blobs from welding. Given the two-piece manufacturing, it wouldn't be hard to get two tone.
