Generally, RIS front ends aren't big enough to hold a battery. You have to use an ANPEQ battery box, or rear wire it with a crane or full stock battery, or a battery bag on the stock.

What about the stock style foregrip... is there a metal version that will fit a battery inside? Or do I have to buy the battery box for a metal front?

A regular foregrip will fit a regular mini battery. With slight modification, you can fit a larger 9.6V nunchuck style battery.

Some m4 RAS units will support a mini battery (KA) ones can house a mini battery. (NON Freefloating)
