Why would I upgrade my hammer spring?

This might sound dumb and guess it is but I'm sure the answers shall be helpful for me and for anyone else wondering.

I've recently added a metal slide to my TM Hi-Capa 5.1 and to cycle properly installed a 150% recoil spring. Great. With that recoil spring came a 150% hammer spring. I know what it does, I know how to install it but I am just wondering why would I install it?

A stronger hammer spring should give out more gas when the trigger is pulled but with my normal hammer spring I can go down a full magazine with no problems so why would I need it?

Thanks alot for your help

Under warmer temps the stock hammer spring may not strike the valve with the required pressure to cycle the metal slide.

If you don't need it, leave it out.

While the stiffer spring whacks the valve harder (how much more gas it lets out, if any, is debatable -- you'll never exceed the maximum flow capacity of the valve) it also makes it more difficult for the slide to blow back since it has to push down the harder hammer spring.

Just because you get a hammer spring with the recoil doesn't mean you have to use that one...I've found that with all of my upgraded Hicapa's (mostly Shooters Design upgrades - internals & externals) that I've used the Nineball hammer spring (red one sold individually) after testing all of the others.

Some things to consider:
- Are you using a Hiflow valve in the mag? Tanio Koba works best for me.
- Have you installed a suitable upgraded recoil spring for your slide? Believe me when I say that there is a difference between all of the manufacturers even though the package says 150%... I use King Arms (recoil only) in every one of mine.
- You had better have an assortment & selection of internal parts to interchange and test in any & every combination possible to get it tuned just right. What may work for one guy may not work for the next!
- You will get frustrated but don't give up...If all else fails try try again !!

Good luck!!!

My gun fires flawlessly. I haven't installed any aftermarket valve on the magazine and i don't intend to. Installed is a Guarder recoil spring and it cycles flawlessly as well.

That's also my question as to why would I need to install the hammer spring since the gun works perfectly right now?

Propane expands in hot temp, therefore it increases in pressure. As said above, a stock hammer spring won't hit the release valve hard enough to get the system to work. You can get away without an enhanced hammer spring on hot days, simply by dry firing your gun a half dozen times after you fill the mag with gas, then load it and go play. Largely from what I've seen is overfilly causes the biggest problem, relieving some of the pressure after filling tends to sort things out.
