Removing an AUG Barrel
Hello there. I was wondering how you remove the front part of an AUG outer barrel, the piece past the vertical grip. Mine might be a little different cause it's a custom extended barrel. But I was looking into getting a shorty barrel, and I'd most likely buy a whole new barrel assembly and just take off the front and add a shorty barrel/flashhider.

Doesn't help at all. I already know how to field strip my AUG.

1. Remove fake gas valve
2. Remove fore-grip 3. Locate small hex screw underneath where foregrip was 4. Unscrew/loosen - will not come out completely 5. Careful not to lose part ST-38 as it'll fall out when you pull the outer barrel off. 6. Disregard the fact your entire outer barrel is dependent on 1 little hex screw http://www.arniesairsoft.co.uk/artic...m/aug/aug1.jpg

Hehe. Ok I'll try that. Thanks. And I don't have a gas valve so I can't lose it :P. (That's what ST-38 is right?). And the AUG barrel, even if it IS only dependent on one little hex screw...is a hell of a lot more solid than some other AEG barrels |

ST-38 is small almost L shaped piece of metal. It's mostly for alignment of the gas-valve (ST-37) and keeping it from falling out. ST-38 will slip in between the outer barrel and the collar, there's a notch on the collar where it would sit if you had it.

Alright I got that little hex screw out, and the front barrel is spinning freely now. But it won't come out. Help?

That hex screw is the only thing that should be holding it in. The hex screw should come all the way out. The only other thing I can think of is if the inner barrel was cut to size after it was assembled and maybe there's a burr on the end of it.PS let me know if your not going to keep the long barrel.HINT,HINT!

If it's spinning but not coming out, you could try removing the inner barrel first - if it is in fact a burr problem, it'll be easier to pull out the inner barrel which only has the burr scraping as resistance vs the outer which has the burr and the inside of the 'barrel hub.' The inner barrel/hopup chamber is held in by two small phillips screws at the back, one on each side. (careful with these, it's VERY easy to strip the plastic out)
Did you only loosen the hex grub screw or completely remove it? The AUG front outer barrel has a lip that the grub screw secures against which would allow the barrel to rotate but not come out. I really wish TM had used a two piece metal barrel... While the front end is completely secure, even with only that grub screw holding it, the back half is just plastic with an aluminum sleeve inside, and held very poorly by two philips screws. I'm starting to get a fair amount of wobbling without the obscene amount of tape shimming I've done to the hub/vert grip section.

Yeah I've taken the hex screw completely out, and the back section completely out as well. Dunno what's holding it in.

It rotates, and i can see where the hex screw used to be, it's rotating under there. I don't think it's threaded in because i tried turning it both ways, and pulling and rotating, and pushing and rotating, but it doesn't seem to want to budge. I took everything off [rear barrel and everything attached, and flashhider] except the front barrel and the metal grip attach-er.

Alright I have some pics now.
The barrel Where I took the hex screw out The end of the front barrel, inside, where the hex screw holds it The L-shaped piece that's part of the gas block taken out, and you can see the silver barrel inside. The entire barrel is one piece of aluminum or other metal. |
