The anatomy of M16's

Ok, so I find myself really attracted to the M16 VN look. No, it was not a Vietnam movie that sparked this....so that kinda narrows it down.

Anyway, there's a shitload of PARTS avaliable, but no full gun options I find worthy though.

So I'm thinking I'm going to go the route of building one. G&P makes just about every major part of the damn thing but they are too stupid to actually put it together and just sell the gun.... so I'm going to use mostly those. I will then opt for one of those bling bling Systema Revolution gearboxes.

My question is: what kind of little bastard parts am I going to need that aren't included with the "upgraded" external parts? I'm specifically looking for info from those of you who have done this using G&P or other metal body kits and such.

I know I'm going to need an inner barrel. As for hope up parts, the G&P M16 body comes with what seems to be the whole using, but is there anything missing?

Knobs, selector switch, trigger guard thing, charging handle, spring for it, mad release lever? Anything I'm missing that I'm going to have to find? I saw G&P also had an all steel replacement set of some of these parts for M16's, is that still around anywhere?

WGC has a G&P M16VN complete gun listed, a friend has one, its a good gun. all you have to do is find a person who can import it for you.

i believe that when a metal body is listed "with furniture", it includes the mag release, body pins, fire selector, and any other small parts directly attached to the metal body.

Oh I know they have one, and I'm not new to imports and such, I'm looking into that one, but I hesitate to deal with specifically WGC at the moment for other reasons.

With furniture? That would be awsome except I can't find any like that. I did find that Guarder makes a few of the little bits I'd need.

I'm quite curious about the charging handle and its features though. I've never actually ripped open an M16 to see what's in there. Very strangely enough, M16/4's are the least I know anything about. In there a rod and spring in there that guides and holds the charging handle or what? Any help?

G&P metal bodies come with all the pins you need, including the charging handle, but I can't recall if the mag release was included. Either way you can buy a mag release separately.
The charging handle is about 5 or 6 inches long, and it serves as its own guide moving along the top of the inside of the upper receiver, theres a spring thats attached to the upper receiver and hooked onto the charging handle. Other than looks it serves no real purpose on a G&P gun.

This is the breakdown of a CA M15A2 carbine, the only difference between this gun and the rifle is the front set which contains the same, but longer, parts, the inner barrel and a full cylinder in the gearbox.

Now it's not a VN but it'll give you a good idea of what goes in an armalite.

I've got the G&P M16VN from WGC -> Ordered it through A&A last July. It's a great AEG; solid construction, heavy... You name it. It fires pretty hot out of the box too. Mine chronied at 369 at an op on September 22nd. I'm trying to sell mine because I'm looking for a SCAR or M468 but if I were into VN's, the G&P is the way to go.

why not.... Classic Army? I assuming you know they produce a full VN? It just seems like that would be a lot easier, possibly even cheaper.

Ya but G&P > CA for metal bodies. Even come's with a reinforced mechbox shell, 7mm bearings, and really good lower gage wiring.

Oh yes I've already considered that. I usually would go CA but I'm betting the G&P aftermarket parts are better.
