There is no such thing as a "beginner sniper". Something is either a good sniper platform, or it isn't. 90% of airsoft sniper rifles start as "isn't" and are made "good" by the knowledge and experiance of those using and modding them.

i have one, but it's really not a gun you should field with. mine chrony at about 270-280 fps with .2 - lower than most aegs the goupings are large and consistancy is very low |

An AEG unti you've been playing for a year or two at least.

Well, assuming that you're considering a Super 9, I'm going to make the assumption that you're under a budget. I would recommend you get the UTG MK96 (Retails at around 300 from Canadian retailers, and 150 for American retailers). I recommend this gun because it comes with many important accessories. Some of which include a sling, bipod, extra magazine and a speed loader. Some retailers will even include a scope as well with the gun which makes it even better. However, what I think really makes this gun the 'perfect' beginner sniper is the fact that it shoots 460-470fps with .2g BB's out of the box. Another plus to this gun is that it is compatible with almost all of the parts made for the Maruzen type 96, which is what this gun is cloned after, making it upgradable if you ever decide that you want to stick with being a sniper.
However, as the others said, being an airsoft sniper isn't as easy as you might think. It takes alot of patience and skill to become one, but if you're really up for it then by all means go ahead. |

You're in Winnipeg, so hopefully you're going to be playing with the MAA...
Play your first season with an AEG, sniping is not all it's cracked up to be in movies and video games.. In airsoft, More often than not, sniping puts you at a disadvantage. |

Paladinia, do we really want a new player running around with a 470fps rifle? Especially since most fields have a 450fps limit for BA rifles... ...dude, you'll poke your eye out.... Mr.SMIG, I would strongly suggest that you play at least a year as an infantryman (with an AEG that shoots below 400fps), then you'll know if you have the patience to be a sniper. Sniping might seem really cool in real life but with airsoft it's very different. Most snipers are players with a lot of experience. Safety is also crucial and you must have good range estimating skills not to engage targets that are too close. If that happens, you'll just hurt your buddies and won't be invited to future events. If you really want to start as a sniper, get a TM VSR-10 (265 fps but fully upgradable) or a Jing Gong BAR-10 (360-400fps VSR-10 clone compatible with TM upgrades). The latter will be less expensive so it won't hurt your wallet as much if you end up not liking sniping.... I hope that helps

get an AEG like the others said. but if you really are persistent in getting a sniper, get a vsr clone, if you want something cheap. |

Never buy a sniper rifle as your first gun.

so true, those lil plastic/ metal balls don't go far enough to classify as sniping weapon.... Of course you can make it so it would get people 300M away with 750fps+ but then who's gonna let you use it? Get an Automatic Airsoft, something like Rifle series or SMG.
*AEG is currently the perfect combination of reliable & cheap *GAS is for realism but lacks reliability due to gas pressure is lower in lower temperature (Chem 20) & Gas is not cheap *Springer is just pure cheap but basically useless unless your using it for sniping which you shouldn't be *PTW, new catergory of airsoft made by Systema using AEG but offers more realism at huge cost (about 3-4X of normal AEG guns) |
