Inner Barrel Diameters / Deep Fire SS

Thinking about getting some tight bore barrels for my AEGs.

Curious as to the diameter I should go with. Airsoftparts.ca has a few right now, I need a 300mm and a 509mm. I want decent accuracy without comprimising reliability (ie jamming). Is 6.02 too tight, should I go with 6.03? What about 6.04 or is there not much accuracy gain. And has anyone had experience with Deep Fire SS barrels, I dont think i've heard much about them. Thanks guys.

For AEG's don't go smaller then 6.04 and for sniper rifle you go down too 6.01 but saying this if you are going too a tight bore barrel make sure you are using high-grade BB's so you don't get any jamming

Prometheus 6.03 is fantastic, I've only ever had it jam once on crap BBs, but I use flying colors and KSC perfects no problems what so ever!
My team buys nothing but prom. tightbores, theres no compromising with prometheus

my friend has a Deep Fire SS 6.02 for his G36C and he loves it, uses Madbull BBs and he says it's very accurate..

I know people who use 6.01's in normal AEG's and have never had a jam. The only jams I have ever heard of are caused by one of two things, cheap BB's or not cleaning the barrel between games (takes a few games before it starts jamming.) Also I have talked to people and the difference in accuracy between a 6.03mm (prometheus) and a 6.01mm barrel is almost nothing yet the price is significantly different.

Also stick to SS and not brass, brass contracts and expands more depending on temperature and some guys on the PTW forums from Sweden say that anything smaller than 6.04mm in brass jams in the cold. Don't know since I only use 6.04mm brass and anything smaller I get in SS but its food for thought.

i heard that the 6.01 were so tight that the BB in some instances would leave skid marks on the inside of the barrel. just get a 6.03 prometheus.

That doesn't seem possible. With the high degree the inside of the barrel is polished to in order to leave skid marks it would have to drag REALLY hard against the inside. Well over 1.5 or 2.0J of energy so it would just jam. The BB in any barrel rides against the top of the inner barrel anyway, regardless of diameter, its not like it magically floats down the exact middle of the barrel.

For the cost, 6.01mm barrels aren't worth it for the performance gain unless you have money to burn. As said go with Prometheus 6.03mm, never had a problem and never heard of a problem with those.

The classic army SS barrels strip BBs. It's really weird. I had to take mine out of my G36 because it was reducing both velocity and accuracy.

I just installed a Deep Fire SS tightbore in one of my MP5s, and so far it's doing great. Hard to tell with it, but it looks like my normal 2" groups have settled down to about 1-1.5" (sitting, elbows on knees, 0.28g, and using an RDS, semi only).

Could be you didn't install it properly. I mean, a barrel is just a tube, a minor thing in the entire system. Mine was shooting CD sized groups at first, even after I cleaned and oiled the barrel, but it settled down nicely after a few mags.

Stalker: what diameter is that Deep Fire barrel? if its that much better of a grouping, i might order a 6.01mm inner barrel

I honestly don't know, I was in a rush and took whatever barrel Jugglez had in stock. Needed a 229mm inner and had to go with a 247mm. It's either a 6.02mm or a 6.04mm since DeepFire makes both. Just looked, all he has in stock is 6.02mm barrels, so good chance that's what I got.

Its pretty hard to install it wrong. And i rechecked it a couple of times. I tried washing but no dice. I think there is a slightly rough patch along the inside of the barrel somewhere.

Is hard to install wrong, but I've seen a few guys (have done it too) install the rubber wrong, causing leaking. What range are your BBs hooking to the right at? If longer range, say past 100ft, then it could be something to do with the rubber or a 'bad patch' like you suggested. If they are hooking to the right at 30ft or so.................
