Chairsoft N00b in need of your assistance

Hello ASC,

I joined back in January when I was first introduced to Airsoft a tad late in my life as I'm 30, however I'm extemely excited and eager to jump in head first into this activity. Through bumping around the forums and the web I've come to believe that the following is what I'd like to start out with. *as I'm still awating to get age verified (feels like I'm buying a 6pack from the LCBO)* What I would ask from all you ASC people reading this is as a first time buyer/future participant is
where do I start? I've picked out the following
- TM G3SG1 (Primary)
- VFC HK416 super DX (Secondary)
- Maruzen P99 (Fallback)

If you have any advice and some time to spare to help foster this new infatuation of mine please let me know. Outside of the assistance It would be great to hear more from owners of the above listed and any assistance or tips/tricks you can provide.

i would use the HK416 as my primary and as for your sidearm, why did you choose that one? I would stick with a TM, WE or KSC as my sidearm. again, im a noob too so my opinion doesn't count for much.

I'd consider a CA G3SG1 instead of the TM. The only thing substantial about a plastic G3 is length.

I assume by secondary, you mean you'll be alternating between carrying your G3 and 416 into the field, not both at the same time...

I'd strongly encourage a more supported platform as your first GBB, something made by TM or clone of TM. P226, maybe. The Maruzen P99 is much harder to locate spares and expertise for in case of a problem, and having your first GBB being unreliable and a headache tends to leave one a bit traumatized towards future GBB purchases.

Ditch the g3 (unless as The Saint said, you get a CA...) and go with the VFC 416 as you primary. For a secondary you can alway buy a ICS or CA mp5 (for CQB purpose) For your backup go simple; get a TM para 5.1 or a TM p226.

I just read a partial review of the Tokyo Marui USP AEP (Fixed Slide) as it's an AEP would that make it a pro or con since I wouldn't have to mess with any of the rainbow coloured gasses yet?

there is only one gas you should, and that is propane. AEPs IMO, or for shooting around the house and plinking cans.

Blah AEP.... The majority of us use propane. Just pick yourself up an AI propane adapter and you're good to go with a bottle of coleman. Much cheaper then all those other random gasses. Blow back is much more fun!

Con. non gbb imho sucks. No slide movement, no recoil etc...

Nothing complicated using a gbb... Use duster for plastic slide and propane (with an adapter from Airsoft innovation) for a metal slide.

FYI i used propane in my WA infinity even if it had a plastic slide... never broke in over 3000bbs shot.

correct. get a GBB instead, an AEP would be hard to get kills with outdoors.

is there a particular reason why you want the G3 to be your primary?

I guess my biggest concern between the G3SG1 and the 416 is if it will still be viable at ranged shots as the 416. I believe houses a smaller battery (n00bish I know) might night get the same umf out of it.

I should add I'm a bit rushed to buy into the sport as I have some $ that the wife is sure to find out about shortly and try to get me to spend on a trip to cuba. I've been working the airsoft route for a while with her but as a former Yogoslavian she's a bit reluctant to have even airsoft in the house.

Hm, the wife situation certainly does complicate the usual recommendation towards a stretched out, carefully planned and tested period of purchases. Best thing to do is to see if someone local can show you the ropes, maybe at a game or something. A lot of things should be held before they're bought.

Most AEGs, properly tuned and/or upgraded and all else being equal, shoot about the same. Barrel length really only do so much for a spherical projectile travelling at fairly low velocity. I don't think you need to get two AEGs right off the bat. Either the 416 or G3 will be more than sufficient.

As for the small battery, that was more of an issue 2 years ago. These days, mini batteries are pretty competent at powering even upgraded guns.

Blargh, Cuba. As someone who barely drinks and don't smokes, I really don't see the attraction of that place, even after being there.

thanks Saint. I might just stick with the vfc 416 if I can find one (only carrier is AA and they are out and have not ordered anymore) ARG pricey though 1100 WOAH.
well I drink like a fish and smoke enough to count it as a meal now so cuba is fine but 3 times already I'm a bit sick of it there even if the weather is better that Ottawa.

I'd also suggest the HK416 over the G3 as your first gun, and yeah VFC is pricey. They make really nice stuff though.

If you haven't already, I'd also put some thought into gear: plan on playing milsim? Low caps? You'll need something to carry the mags. Plan on doing a specific impression? Once you start adding armor, MOLLE pouches, etc... that ads up, too.

SBS all the way, I heard of them while I was in my first year at Sandhurst. (Dropped out right after). I'm hoping to break into the milsim world however haven't decided a theme yet. as I'm the only person who I know of personnaly who wants to play Airsoft it makes it harder but I'm sure with all the support on here I should be okay. N00b question what's low caps?

Low capacity magazine. Generally 30 rounds or the amount that a real steel magazine for that gun would hold.
