Tanaka Mauser Kar 98k
Hey everyone,
I am thinking of getting a Mauser, but the Tanaka version says its powered with HFC 134a. So, i keep hearing everyone say that green gas and propane are the same and that they are better than HFC 134a. That being said, can i use propane in a Tanaka Mauser? I also found this, which is why i started this thread in the first place (http://www.wwiiguns.com/store/produc...ils.php?p=291). It basically says if the gun says to use a certain gas type, then dont; use what it says to use. I wanted to know if this is right, or if they are just saying that? Thanks, Donster 125 P.S: mags are fine to order to canada correct? put it this way, i didn't find anything to suggest otherwise. |

as far as I know you can use propane cause theyres no actual moving parts besides the hammer, but I dont actually own one so I cant say for sure. I think Dogfood has one, try asking him.

My friend had one and used purely propane in it (Flabeo on these boards). Worked pretty well.

would you care to shed some light on it? I was under the imporession that tanaka makes really good stuff, esp when it comes to Gas BARs. What did you think of the rifle in terms of performance, build, quality etc?

It's a beast of a gun, the cloud of propane after each shot was intimidating as hell. The sound wasn't, though, but the shots were. If there was nothing in the barrel, he would've done a hell of a lot better then he did, the gun seemed quite accurate after. Build feels sturdy as hell, it's all wood and metal (except for the original extractor, for some reason). Engravings are awesome, too, a hell of a lot of attention to detail. He ended up trading it for a pimped-out Dragunov though.

haha, yes that is very true, i was. however, i was only considering it if i can't get my hands on a VFC HK 416 14.5 as a special order from A&A. The reason as to why i am inquiring into a Tanaka Mauser Kar 98k is down the road i would like one as a sniper's rifle.

i am a bit confused, i thought that the Tanaka Muaser Kar 98k did not have shells and thus no ejecting. As to my knowledge, it is just like a standard Propane BAR, with a clip that holds ten 6mm BB's and the gas as well. IN short, there are NO shells to speak of. I do know that the Marushin makes an 8mm shell ejecting mauser. is that the one your friend has?

If you can, buy the Tanaka Kar98k, getting hard to do these days and it is a fine piece.
I use propane and shoots nice, but you want to use heavier BB's. Forget about the Marushin version.... (trust me I owned both and Tanaka is the winner)

When I posted I thought you were talking about the Mauser as in this gun:
http://www.redwolfairsoft.com/redwol...l?prodID=17566 My mistake. But yes the Kar98 can take Propane fine. Krieg and Lawdog (I think) have them. |

You might just have to watch your FPS though. Propane in gas rifles can be a bit....excessive at times. It depends.

There is a flow reducer in the G version of the Tanaka K98.

I, and a few other guys have the Tanaka. Mine fires exactly 450 fps on propane on about a 20C day. I have not had any problems with mine. One HFC I think it clocks in around 370 or so.
I love the build quality etc. It is all metal and wood, a nice feel, and there is a scope available for it as well. There is no problem importing the mags. The site you listed though are rip-off artists, and have fallen through on many transactions I would not do business with them. I think there is also a thread about this rifle on the Ontario WWII airsoft re-enactors site. I have never heard a bad thing about this gun. LD
