Gas shotgun shell idea.
I got around to thinking about this after finding out that most airsoft shotguns dont fire many bbs per shot, which was dissapointing to tell the truth.
Anyways, this is just a rough example of what i was thinking about, and i would appreciate any and all imput on the feasability of this system. Its very similar to a gas shower greanade, but small scale, basically, but im considering making a prototype ( just for something to do, mostly) but also to see whats what. anyways, post away! *e* the spidery looking thing is the firing pin. i dont know any dimentions of the shells themselves, or anything else id need to know about it to make one, so feel free to point things out to me lol |

this is a great idea. i love doing stuff like this myself. when i first started paintball, i hated the idea of a hopper, so i designed a magazine fed paintball gun on paper. it was interesting to see hoew my idea didn't stray too far from the market ones such as RAP4. i hope you take your idea far. the only thing i see as being a problem is loading them. it would take a little bit longer. however, it is a shotgun, and this is much more realistic than the current shotgun shells which only fire one BB/shot. good luck on the project.

what i explained and described with diagrams is a shotgun shell that fires a lot more. if you would like to comment further, dont. Quote:
i thought of this after posting, a simple loader with 8 funnels to fill each shell would cut down refill time, ill probly sketch something later Last edited by Damned; September 9th, 2007 at 12:55.. |

Take it from me, skruface knows what hes talking about.
You are talking about inventing a shell compatible with an already made shotgun (you've yet to mention the model or make) Having the gas in the shells poses alot of problems, you might want to re-think your idea.... |

from the dimensions of the bb holes your 'shell' is the same size as a 40mm moscart anyway

Its an example, and a though and an idea.
could name some of the problems a self contained cartridge poses? as ive said i dont actually know any of it |

maybe you could invent 2mm bb's too
look at maruzen and tanaka shells maruzen can have a 'combat' load of 10 fired from CO2 combat bucks loads I understand have a similar pellet count well..if you want to invent something, its always a good idea to completely understand what is out there at the moment |

Not to mention, Tanaka shells already have gas held within the shell. The Clarence Lai Magnum/Slugshot/Buckshot rounds take it a bit further, with higher pressure gas that can fire either a single bb at 450 fps/either a 1.9 or 3.9g rubber slug/or 9 bb's.
Not that this wouldn't be cool, but it's somewhat been done already.

For a home-brew design. I think it would be easier/more suitable to create some kind of gas unit. Instead of trying to create a shell that will contain gas.
Are you planning on building your own shotgun to integrate this system? Also, nobody can say this guy has failed. All he has shown is an idea and a diagram. Sure these things happen a lot, and we usually never hear about them. But people have built AT-4's and other strange devices in the airsoft community. Don't let some malicious/useless response get you from creating your ideas.

Also, try and have a sense of humor about things. If you're going have a stick up your ass about every negative comment that comes your way, you won't get very far as an inventor. That said, good luck with what ever you decide to build.

I dont have a problem with critisism when its creative, its when people just say "nah been done you lose" how is that helpful?
im not going to make a shotgun for this, but if i did it would be an over and under break barrel (or side by side, whatevers easiest) just for shits and giggles. if someone could be so kind as to either post the dimentions of a shell or tell me where to find them that would be nice |

Dont expect to acomplish too much with a "shits and giggles" attitude.
