New Custom Gun
Ok, so i'm looking at building myself a custom gun.
Just wondering some things. #1 What low caps are recommended with the G&P Metal Body Marine Bulldog? #2 Systema Complete Mechbox comes with a motor? #3 What brand is recommended for a good price mechbox/motor? (I just need it to be solid and under 350fps for CQB and fits in the G&P Metal Body Marine Bulldog). #4 What crane stock brand is recommended? (I think the STAR one is better, or was that the 'not so good' one?) Thanks

This isn't a sales thread.
And Ronan, you could just buy a stock G&P gun. When you get to the point of building a gun from scratch, expect to spend well in excess of a $1000. And it's all little crap, like a hop-up for $40, a barrel for $70, front end for $200, etc. You get the idea. If you are going to end up spending more than $1000 to build this gun, don't and spend $2000 on a PTW. Seriously. The performance is so much better, and you get the option to go from 300 fps to 500 fps with just the swapping of cylinder kits and batteries, which are pretty easy to change. But it's real seductive to say "But I can start with a $500 Marui and just add parts over time". In the end, you'll have spent the money to buy a PTW and likely ended up with a high-maintenance gun with little to no flexibility. These guns end up being sold many different times for much less than they cost to build.

I do really like the PTW but i'm trying to be a bit different. Sure not everyone has a Systema PTW... but the look yeah... to many people have it^^ Altho it's kinda cool to say 'Yeah.. it's a PTW ;p' But yeah, if i wanted a PTW i would have bought one right at the beginning. It's just not really my style. Altho if i ever find a cheap one i will buy it ASAP I was told G&P aren't that great. Can anyone ellaborate? Is it like CA with great externals and shitty internals that need to be upgraded?

Just so you know, there is no such thing as a "different" or "unique" Armalite. If you can imagine a possible configuration or set-up, trust me, it's been done hundreds of times.
Get past the "I want a unique" Armalite, becasue they don't exist, no matter what parts you buy. Even a PTW will "look" like any other AR, until you handle it. If you don't want your gun to end up being a money pit, just buy one stock, add whatever externals you need to make it game-able and go from there. And G&P is still better in my opinion than Classic Army.

Yeah. I was under the impression that a POF PTW didn't exist. Then I joined systema-ptw.com, and had my dreams shat on. Well, might aswell go with LWRC! ... V_v;

Hey
Hey dude...I recently built an AR from scratch. I think I can answer some of your questions:
1. TM locaps are the best. But they tend to be quite pricey, and sometimes they're too small for the G&P magwell meaning that you need to tape them. The best fitting mags are probably the G&P midcaps. Just fill them to locap capacity and you should be fine. 2) ONLY some systema mechboxes come with motors. The new Magnum (M170--> I hope you're not planning on using this on a field) and the new Turbo Kit come with motors. The other mechboxes (The most commonly bought M120 mechbox) DOES NOT come with a motor. 3) Use the systema turbo kit (Hi-speed mechbox and turbo motor set). I just bought it and it has crazy ROF at 340 fps with a 9.6V battery. Perfect for what you're looking for. 4) the G&P crane stocks are nice and if you can get a G&P metal body that is already modified to fit a crane stock (their new "type B" bodies), it'll save you a lotta hassle/dremel work on the installation of the crane stock. BTW...I think you can buy a G&P M4 CQBR for $900-something. |

In the process of building my G&P M4Z1. lot's of magpul products on it. Will be ordering a G&P M120 complete mechbox to go in it. Most mags will work with this gun as another member of my team already built a variation of the M4Z1 with similar internals. still really no such thing as a unique armalite except for the paintjob. With that in mind...build it they way you want. Don't over tune it, go for simplicity. chose reliable parts with good manufactuers. The number of "upgraded" guns I've seen fail on field compared to the stock or nearly stock is ludicrous(sp). Make the gun your own even if it's something as little as a magcatch. Yeah systemas are nice and whatnot. but in the end..this is your project and your "baby" and enjoy building it. if your going to put it together worrying about resale value then well get a systema.
I hate selling my guns. and not cause I'm thinking about how much I put into them and how much I'll loose in the sale, but cause every weapon I own I field. They were my trusted ally against the other guy. The little things to make that gun "different" even if it's the sanding to give it that worn look speaks of you and your personality. ok rambling now. good luck with your project!!

I prefer the look of the HurricanE stock than of the LMT replica by Star.
Anyone knows the name of that real HK417 stock that HurricanE replicates?

All armalites are hidiously ugly, regardless of what you do to it.
