The number one thing that I hate about TM is that they don't update their previous models and just make a new gearbox for everything.

Why not make one good gearbox for guns like the MP5, the MP5K, the M16, the AK, etc?

Every new gun has a new gearbox... and seriously, the only reason why I'm staying away from the new AEPs are because I know I don't ever want to open up one's gearbox.

That question is like asking Toyota why they don't use the same engine for all of their cars. It just doesn't make sense... logically, financially, and mechanically.

You can't drop a V-8 pickup truck's engine in to a tiny Corolla... and likewise, you can't fit a full sized AEGs gearbox in to an AEP or sub-machinegun. It's physically NOT possible.

Looking at it from the other end of the spectrum, although you could fit an AEP gearbox in to a full-sized AEG's frame, there are certain mechanical limitations to such a small gearbox. First of which, is very limited power. With such a short stroke distance, you can't possibly fill enough air volume to push a BB out longer inner barrels.

I'm generalizing... I'm not asking them to put a AK or M16 gearbox in a Glock.

But I mean, the M93r and the Glock have different internals... even the MP5 and the MP5K have different gearboxes!

Okay, I get what you're saying now. Even modern Armalites are different from the old M16 VN model.

I'm vaguely aware of some minor differences between the AEPs and the new AESMGs that are now available, but overall, a lot of the aftermarket parts can be swapped between the systems. I'm sure the differences in gearbox design are done out of necessity, and not as a way to lock in particular market shares. It's not a scheme that Tokyo Marui has up their sleeves to make more money. Fact is, they'd actually make MORE money if they had a way to use the same parts across every single platform. But again, the differences are due to necessity... merging across all platforms (and even some similar platforms) isn't technically possible.

Will it also feature a whopping 180-230 fps like their other AEPs? A buddy of mine has a G18C and has to hose people in CQB with it just so they call their hits, else they think they're just ricochets.

I have to admit though the MP7 is quite good, but short barrel + AEP gearbox = fail.
