So I bought this thing on thursday from a guy I found on here. It fires great in semi-auto but automatic is a different story. It seems to misfire every second shot in auto. When I take the mag out and watch the piston, it drives back into place every second time but every other time it only goes back half way. Now when it goes half way, I dont know if it is going short or if its going over its cycle. This thing is hopped up @420fps. Its got a systema gearbox and a big battery to accomodate it. I dont know if this gun being hopped up is the problem. I am gonna try a different mag with it tomorrow. The springs in my mags might be weak do to being old. Huh told me that this piston thing is very common but if thats the case then my auto fire is the shits. There must be something I can do. Thanks alot.

You are actually watching the nozzle (not the piston) move. This is pulled back by the tappet once per cycle of the piston. If it is not being pulled back fully to load a bb in full auto, there are only 2 reasons for this:

1)broken tappet. But this usully leads to a complete no-fire in all modes

2)tappet not being properly engaged by sector gear. This can be caused by poor shimming of the sector gear, wrong tappet for the sector gear, or broken rear tab on the tappet. The return spring for the tappet may also be of issue here.

Basically, you can sometimes simulate this problem if you used a battery of high voltage, like 12 volt, using a stock spring, but likely this is not the problem here.

You are likely going to have to remove and open the mechbox, but unless it's a really obvious problem of a broken part, only an experienced gun doctor is going to find the problem.

Ok thanks man, the aeg was just in with Ken@007 to be repaired before I bought it. The guy that I bought it off said that it was firing perfect. When I got it home this was not the case. The funny thing is is that I can watch that nozzle or whatever you called it in semi-auto and it does the same thing. And it fires fine in semi. So thats why I wonder if its the mags. Like I said Im gonna try different mags to see if this is the problem. I also emailed Ken to see if he has any input. Thanks

Lucky for you. Mags are cheap and no disassembly required.
