MP5K-A4 Project Gun
So several months ago I bought an MP5K on an impulse thinking I could slap on a full stock. I decided to look into it AFTER I bought it and found out that it wasn't so easy (doh)! After much searching I found only a few people have done it but no details on what exactly needed modifying. I thought "what the hell" and was gonna dive in anyways.
So I just got my CA MP5 full stock yesterday and was excited and nervous about putting this thing on. Got the dremel out today and finished fitting everything together nicely. All that's left is to make an adaptor to hold both the stock and the receiver together and strengthen it (right now its just friction fit and a bit of overlapping). This will probably be started soon. Both (minor) modification to the gun and the stock was needed. Basically I found the gun was too big for the stock to slide over properly. Solution: Dremel off half of the tabs blocking the groove, slightly widen the groove, and slightly widen the opening of the stock. Took approx. 2 hours however much of the time spent was checking and rechecking for interference. I must say, I am in love with this gun now! It absolutely amazing to shoulder and wield around. Hopefully a CQB game will present itself soon. Immediate future plans (when funds available) are to put a longer tightbore and hide it with a silencer. Hopefully a new cylinder will not be needed. Here's a link to a picture of it. http://i179.photobucket.com/albums/w...e56/mp5ka4.jpg Cheers, Mark |

Looks great to me, thanks for sharing!
What you need to do now, is rewire the battery connector to take a large battery in the stock... Cheers! Alex |

Very nice job! I love the MP5K, but its much more functional with a stock and I never liked the PDW stock. I think you have yourself a very good looking and functional CQB weapon there.

I never did like the M4 stock option or the PDW stock. I do plan on rewiring it to have a battery in the stock, however, I can't figure out how to get the butplate of the stock off :smack: It seems to be permanently attached, but from what I've seen on the internet, the TM ones come off so the battery can go in. Anyone know anything about the CA ones? |

If you give it a downward smack with the palm of your hand on the top edge of the buttplate it should click down for removal.

Thanks Rico, it worked. It was on there really tight!
I can't wait to get this thing out in the field. I don't think my M4 will see much field time anymore! |

I was unsure when i read the first post about how it was going to work out, but man, thats looking good! I'm with you on the PDW stocks....not my cup of tea, but the A4 stock looks like it is meant to be there. Nice work *thumbs up*

I'll post lots more pictures and possibly a "how to" on it when its finished. Anyone with a dremel and some patience shouldn't have much trouble. |

Looks like I'm going to be making a mold for the receiver/stock adaptor tomorrow. It will be molded out of some sort of hard plastic (mostly likely polyethelene), so I was wondering if anyone else would be interested in one (for a price TBD).
I'll have the master mold so if if I need to make more I can. I figure I'm not the only one who wants to put a full stock on a K. |

Note that the cocking tube is functional when the battery is removed. You're seeing the battery through the cocking handle "guide" or "track".

Project Update:
First mold/adaptor didn't turn out due to a trapped airbubble during the mold curing. Second mold a success but second adaptor failed to cast properly :banghead:. Third time's a charm (hopefully)! Also, had the machinist custom make a silencer for me as I didn't like what was readily available and this was MUCH cheaper and EXACTLY to my specs Its made of solid ABS plastic. Its very strong and suprisingly a bit heavy. Just need to paint it black and put some markings on it. The machinist said he's willing to do more custom work on the side (molding/machining). I know I'll have a lot more work for him and figured others may be interested aswell. He charged me approx 1/5 to 1/6 per hour of what custom machine shops would charge for prototype machining! Last edited by Flatlander; April 10th, 2007 at 20:20.. |

Not too sure if your done your buttstock mod, but here are some pictures of Ledpocket's mod, he is a member on Arines who did the a similar stock mod but with a slither stock. Seems like his method could cross over to a full stock, thought it might help.

No, I'm not quite done my stock mod yet. I have to cast one final (hopefully) adaptor then do some minor dremeling to it.
To create the mold I took the buttplate off my K and machined and temperarily attached an "extension" of sorts to the back of the buttplate and casted a mold of it. So after the adaptor is cast it will be one solid piece and there will be no need to make another bolt hole on the top of the stock (which I really didn't want to do). It probably would've taken less time to just machine one single adaptor out of a chunk of plastic or aluminum but I figured others would want one or if mine breaks I can just simply pour another one in the mold. |

Wow, its been a while but I finally have the gun to where I want it (minus RDS/lasers/lights/goodies).
So the low down: I finally found a "liquid plastic" from Viking Plastics that works very well for the cast! The mold has some bubbles it it still but overall works well. Below is a few pictures of the adaptor (sorry for the poor quality): http://i179.photobucket.com/albums/w...6/SD530147.jpg http://i179.photobucket.com/albums/w...6/SD530146.jpg You can see white splotches where the krylon rubbed off. It doesn't seem to stick to well to this material but cannot be seen when installed. Now here's some pictures (with and w/o stock) of the finished product with the newly installed RIS system, silencer and extended barrel. http://i179.photobucket.com/albums/w...6/SD530154.jpg http://i179.photobucket.com/albums/w...6/SD530153.jpg http://i179.photobucket.com/albums/w...6/SD530150.jpg http://i179.photobucket.com/albums/w...6/SD530152.jpg http://i179.photobucket.com/albums/w...6/SD530167.jpg Note in the last picture, the tiny little inner barrel is shown for comparison. She's my baby...now I just gotta try her out on the field (maybe). Cheers, Mark |
