extended length inner barrel for TM SG552
I am just wondering what kind of options I have for longer inner barrel(tight bore or regular) for the SG552. I am getting an longer SPR-style flash hider and OPS silencer for the gun anyway so I figure an inner barrel upgrade would be a suitable thing to do. What else I might need to change(or better change at the same time) if I were to go with a tightbore?
Knowing that I am completely new at this, would this be a recommanded DIY job? Thanks. |

a new cylinder for sure, that's what my buddy was told when he wanted a longer inner barrel for his sig. something about pressure, i can't remember, ask one of the anti-noobs. in the end, he just went with a power upgrade and now he shoots 390fps lol.

You don't really need to change anything if you don't want to if you're just adding a tight bore, you just won't get the best possible performance out of it. In simple terms, by increasing the length of your inner barrel, the amount of air to push the BB through it is also increased. Guns with long inner barrels thus generally use a cylinder without any holes.
If you want to change things like cylinder, piston head, etc, you'll need to open up your gearbox. There are tons of things in there that you can change, but the question is whether you feel the need to go inside the most forbidding part of your gun?

Opening a mechbox isn't that bad, you just need to really know what your doing. First time I opened a mechbox was last weekend at a gun fix day, had Foxtail (Ottawa area M4/16 upgrade expert), Hazard_SFD (team mate, did all the work on his G36c on his own so he knows what to do), and Greylocks (AK upgrade expert, AK and G36 are both ver.3 so his expertise was great) right there to guide me through it. I don't recommend doing it on your own first time unless you have a high level of mechanical proficiency as well as a lot of time and a LOT of patience.

Unfortunately, accessing the Sig552 gearbox isn't a simple task, especially for a noob. It's one of the harder gearboxes to access, although not the hardest.
Depending on the length of the inner barrel you get, you may or may not have to make any modifications to your gearbox. If you go with an inner barrel that is M4 length (407mm) OR SHORTER, then you don't have to swap your to an unported one. If you go any longer than 407mm, then you'll have to make the upgrade. |

I am looking at the length of the longer flash hider that I am getting and hope to not exceed that length. Visually it looks to have about 5-10 cm available, so the max I am looking at is probably 350mm vs the 247mm for the stock SIG. M733 I think is 370+. Do all these different length inner barrels interchangably installed onto different AEG? Presumably installed with the same mechanism?

M733 inner barrel length is 300mm.
Sig552 is 247mm. M4 is typically 363mm. You can get longer variants in 407mm. All of these AEGs use the same mount. The only Tokyo Marui AEG that has a unique mount is the M14. |

Which pisses me the right off. I hope Tanio makes a SOCOM14 Twist barrel. I don't want to Dremmel one of the shorter TK barrels to fit or cut the full sized one for M14.

oh the twist barrel, I saw that on the parts site, does it serve the same purpose as the rifling in the regular gun barrel?

Naw, the twist barrel doesn't actually spin the BBs. The grooves allows a cushion of air to form around the BB and keeps it from bouncing around inside the barrel.

I actually had the full Tanio Koba Twist M14 length inner barrel (510mm) mounted in my SOCOM 16 for a bit and it only extended past the flash hider by less than 1cm. Granted, I had the SOCOM front sight and DC Vortex flash hider on... and with the VFC QD suppressor attached on the flash hider, it made no difference whatsoever.

Sorry for the tread jack. I'm in simular situation. I was told by a trusted source that I do not need to replace the piston when I switch from a MP5 barrel to an M4, is this true?

Sherlock, you don't need to change the piston.

Sweet. I only remember back when sticking an M4 in was the "in" thing to do and someone said that you have to change it. Thanks!
