Converting a M4 into a M16
I was thinking about converting my G&P M4 into an M16.
Aside from the stock, what would I need to go about performing this modification? Heres what I THINK I would require: M16 Length Outer barrel M16 Length Inner barrel M16 Length Hand guards Additionally: What is the Gas tube in the G&P M4 attached to? Would it get in the way of my modification? If so, would it be easy to remove? Thanks much. -VM |

Don't forget full-size cylinder for the mechbox, unless the G&P M4s come with one.
Of course, to do it totally authentically, you'll need a new body with the proper trades... but if you're just worried about feel, that should be all you need. |

I have no idea what the cylinder is for... What does it connect to and why would it affect the connection of a longer barrel?
I'm not too worried about the trade marks, I just want a longer barrel (Which is the main difference between an M16 and an M4). Looked at ASCA and found the cylinders. They all look alike to me? http://www.ascarmoury.com/index.php?cPath=6_82 Thanks. -VM |

I heard that G&P M4s come with a full size cylinder but just look to be sure...

If you're upgrading to an M16 length inner barrel, you would want a corresponding cylinder in your mechbox, otherwise you may not be pushing enough air behind the bb to get proper velocity out the barrel. |

This will sound rude but... if you want a full sized M16, buy one already made. It will be cheaper.
Wait until you are 18 and have played for several months before thinking about upgrades. Right now you dont have the basic information/knowledge to consider upgrades. |

I converted my M16 to an M4 for under 200 bucks. I'm sure the conversion back with a full stock and front end bought second hand will cost a lot less than a new 16. That's all thats really needed to BASICALLY end up with the feel of the long gun.
The conversion is fast and easy if you buy those two sets of parts and is no more complicated than breaking down your rifle for battery work or barrel cleaning. I should note that those are TM parts though. If you want the G&P equivilant, you'll be looking at a larger sum of money. But only for the front end and the front end should cost MUCH less than a new G&P 16. He's already got the gun greylocks.. We aren't going to convince him to put it away until he's 18.

It's not a simple parts swap, there will be some mechbox changes involved. This can get extremely expensive if errors are made. So follow your own advice and read the thread too. All of it. |
