Stumped on gun choices
Hey everyone,
I am looking to get my first airsoft gun. Im new to the sport so i wasn't sure if this was a newbie tank question or an airsoft guns discussion so i figured seeing as it was about gun, this would be a better place for it. So I have done quite a bit of research and I read that G&G is a pretty good entry/intermediate company to invest in. They have a huge line up but i kind of fell in love with this gun any opinions? Also I was wondering if i should go the 250-350 range or throw up an extra 100-150 and just go with something like a VFC? I was looking at this im pretty stumped and have been trying to do as much research as possible but as everyone knows(because we were all n00bs at some point) its pretty overwhelming with all the terminology, upgrades, hundreds of companies with hundreds of model, batteries, gearmech and every other factors and component to the game. Just looking for some insight, tips, and advice ! Last edited by Ricochet; June 18th, 2016 at 14:56.. |

You can get a standard VFC M4A1 with the regular handguards for cheaper then that g&g you have listed. Might not look as tacticool as the g&g but its a better buy. You can always replace the handguards with a rail later.

Welcome to ASC!
To answer your question you should consider if budget is an issue. Gun aside, you will have to purchase batteries, BBs, QUALITY eye protection, and perhaps extra magazines. These cost add up quickly and might be the determining factor for which gun you choose. If budget is not an issue and you plan on playing for awhile, the general consensus is buy the VFC M4 variant. The external and internal quality is excellent for a stock gun and can last you a while if used correctly. They are also a good base to upgrade from as there is a plethora of aftermarket parts to choose from. FYI - you should get Age Verified ASAP as it opens the Classified sections of the forum and you can score a good deal. Also refrain from posting link directly to a retailer. It is frowned upon in the community for minors reading the post and attempts to purchase airsoft guns without proper parental supervision. Good luck! |

http://www.torontoairsoft.com/Vega-F...ic_p_4027.html I realize this website isnt the only place to buy guns but i like that they offer free shipping over $300 and are located only about an hour and a half away from me so i wouldnt have to wait to long to get the stuff in the mail. I see youre in Ottawa, have you had any good experiences with any particular online stores in canada? |

Looks is always something you can change in the long run. With an M4 anything is possible pretty much.
Go with a reputable brand. I'm always hearing good things about VFC from the gun docs around here and locally as well.... [just one gun doc I know locally lol] I have experiences with a number of brands that I own King Arms, VFC, A&K G&P, ICS, KWA I'll tell you they will all have some sort of issues.. The biggest difference between all of them is being able to fix them without any huge problems. The more reputable brands seem to be the ones that are known to be able to be diagnose and fix a lot easier. If you are a newb and are looking for a first gun just get one that has a good reputation.... will save you a lot of headaches and money down the road. |

G&G guns become more problematic as they get more expensive. SRL is actually a downgrade over CM16.
Get the VFC. |

G&G Combat Machines (CM's) can make good starters, but they aren't right for all beginners. They're really only worth getting for people who have strict budgets of $200 or less, or, aren't sure if they want to commit a lot of money to airsoft yet, and plan to get something nicer later on and keep the CM as a backup or loaner.
G&G CM's perform pretty well out of the box, and have plastic bodies which keeps the price down, making them a good value for the money as a starter; provided you don't spend over $200 (i.e. a carbine or a raider), and provided you keep it stock (G&G's aren't great platforms to upgrade for several reasons). The more expensive CM models, have rails and "fancy" furniture added on, otherwise it's the same gun. So, the more money you spend on a G&G CM, the ratio of value to money spent starts to fall off sharply. For $350 (from a different retailer) you can get a VFC Fighter. The Fighter starts out a little more "plain" looking, but it's a far greater value at that price point, because it makes an excellent platform to upgrade and it will be able grow with you as you progress in airsoft. CMs are great first guns and they turn into really great backup guns if you decide to stick with playing. I wouldn't bother with the rest of g&gs lineup unless you want the gimmicky features.

I must reccomend the G&G. I bought one (the shortest one) as a backup for Nightfall 5. It blew me away. It can throw .28s just as well as my AK (which is flat hopped) with a good flat trajectory. My AK went down an hour in (thanks retro arms). This guy stepped up to the plate and got me through 16 hours on 2 7.4 lipos (though i am a very conservative shooter). Only real downside is it's cavernous magwell. Most mags rattle like skeleton rave, and socom gear mags will fall out. G&G gr16 midcaps fit tight but you need to really pull to get them out. Ares Amoeba mags and VFC Qmags fit but i have only test fit them. You could shim most mags with tape so that's not a deal breaker though.

Well I'm very new to airsoft so I was kind of thinking getting a G&G to test the sport out and see if I like it then upgrading to a vfc and keeping my G&G as back up ? But I use to be pretty into paintball and am really interested in mil-sim so do I just get a vfc and assume that I'll really like airsoft and keep going ? Ahhhh so many uncertainties lol

Check your budget.
Guns need mags, batteries, a battery charger, good BBs, likely a barrel grouping my upgrade (at least a hop-up) and I recommend a sling. You'll need high quality eyewear that's ballistic protection, with good anti-fog capabilities. Another must is good footwear, ideally light-weight, flexible and comfortable boots with at least 6 inches of ankle protection. Combat, jungle, or mountain boots are best. You'll also want to look into a hat. Preferably something with a brim to keep the sun off of your face/neck and in camo or earth tones. Boonies work well. After you get into it you'll start looking into camo and load bearing gear as well. Hydration, ammo, weather, etc.
