Class 1 IR Laser

Since the US wont allow legal export, what options do we have to purchase here in Canada for Class 1 (Eye safe) Infrared lasers? Anything canadian made? Options from overseas?

illegal export, or pay the large premium for custom order through someone who is a dealer for Laser Devices, Burris, Eotect, etc. It won't be cheap.

As fun as it is to laser up.. you'd probably be better off buying a real steel optic with NV settings. Not only can you then shoot at night accurately with NODs.. but you will be a much smaller target especially to those using lasers!

You can buy from the US, you just need to fill out the right paperwork and pay the ITAR fee.

Irunguns often has class1 orders going but they sell out FAST.

I have a laser and even still, I am saving right now to grab a real steel optic for my pewing machine. Just a better option and honestly cheaper with less hassle than trying to get a laser. Hell, I'm pretty sure those Holosun red dot sights are NVG compatible and they are going for $185 on AirsoftParts.

I'll still of course use the laser because it's good fun, but if going NOD against NOD, I want stealthier options.

Save your cash, get an optic.

Thanks for all the input boys and girls. Have a couple of real steel optics with NV settings. I figured sighting through a head mounted tube would be dreadful, as thats what everyone says, but they actually arent that bad to sight with. I would just like to have that laser option. I have used a non eye safe laser for night shoots(target shooting only!) and me likey. Little to no concern about opfor with green eyes so not concerned with the potential loss of sneakiness. Just curious about class 1 options.

So I just went into my basement, turned every light source off except for the pilot light in my fireplace. I threw on my GSCI PBS-14, mounted it to my helmet and grabbed my rifle that has my Holosun HS403A mounted to it. Even though it is quite dark the tiny bit of ambient light form the pilot light gives quite a bit of definition.

Turned the sight on and lowered it to the lowest brightness setting. The lowest few settings you cannot see with the naked eye. Aiming with the NOD and was quite easy and was very clear. The dot did not wash out your image in any way. I hope that this sight truly is parallax free. It will make aiming and snapping from target to target much more easy.

Anyone who uses NODs, get this. Oh yeah, GunsModify lens pro works perfectly.

If you are playing indoors with NV, you need to keep your dominant eye in normal vision. If you lose your NV operabliity, or move into an area with normal light, you need to be able to aim your gun in a normal fashion. If you use that eye with NV, and have to transition, it ain't gonna happen. Your vision is screwed, and your sights are unusable.

But if you use a laser, no need for that, you have both options. However, a laser is a beacon for anyone else with NV, and if undisciplined with use, is a huge tactical liability.

Truly, you need both.

I've seen these used on a number of .22, I'm more interested in how they hold zero on 5.56/.223?

I'll have to look more into this.

While I'll probably grab a HS403A for my Airsoft gun, I'm mainly interested in one for my Real Steel ARl.

Very true that really you need both, which I do.

However, I have had little issue in using my NOD over my dominant eye. I have done it many times using both to test this theory specifically, and find little difference in using either eye. I might be one of those weird freaks though.

I would say, and don't take this as gospel: With just laser, non-dom eye. With both, dom eye.

In addition to this:

I have been noticing that when I go back to my rifle the sight always seems to be on. After a short period of experimenting I discovered that with the sight I purchased for my rifle and the other one I ordered from the same batch for a teammate have a fault in them.

If you turn the sight off and give it a small tap on the side of the housing, the sight will turn back on. This also occurs if you turn the sight off and give it a light shake. Now, this is supposed to have 50k hours worth of battery life off of one CR2032 battery, so your battery dying shouldn't be an issue for awhile, however this is still a troubling factor in the confidence I hold in this product, especially as this happens in both pieces I purchased and not just the one.

I purchased it from AirsoftParts.ca, so I will be in contact with Duy about working something out.
