Smile Juggernaut (CoD) for Specialty Games! (Southern Ontario, CA)

Been working on a Juggernaut styled suit for cosplaying back at Anime North @ Toronto this year as well as Comic Con in Niagara Falls. Been having an itch to bring it out to airsoft fields for specialty games. The suit isn't going to be a perfect match to the games, but I have been content with how it's come along so far!

Currently packing an A&K Mk43 to bring along for the fun! The armor being used is an Interceptor OTV with some general OD kneepads as well as elbow pads both being used along the upper arms and forearms. Currently some standard cadpat kneepads and an OD battlebelt, OD nutflap and a cadpat backpack piece repurposed for rear protection, don't think it can be seen clearly here. Helmet is a Pasgat m88 with a riot visor. Armored gorget / neck collar was custom built by me.

Ignore the nerf gun in the last picture, was just a nice pose taken at a con. <.<

So far there could be room to wear full sealed goggles under the helmet with the visor engaged, going to be testing it to be sure. If not, eye pro can be worn with the visor up with no issues, so my precious eyeballs are safe and following field rules for safety.

Still looking at ideas for additional armoring such as thigh padding and full length knee and shin protectors. The idea being of course to be very well padded at least from the front, as playing in scenario games I would expect to be getting fired upon non-stop when moving in the open.

Also still looking at options for a weak spot, such as a bicycle bell or a small steel plate to hang from my chest somehow, that when hit will disable the juggernaut.

An idea of including a jugg into a specialty scenario would be to have it as a neutral unit as part of the environment between opposing sides. Players run up to the juggernaut and tag them while declaring their team colour to activate the unit, and he will then turn to march towards their enemy, firing until their weakspot is hit to stop them. Rinse and repeat! Am definitely looking for other ideas for scenarios, and am looking to contact local / nearby fields to see if there would be any interest for such scenarios.

~~
Neutral Bomb Plant Game w/Juggernaut idea

Neutral Bomb Plant game type:
Single bomb in the middle of field must be captured by Red or Blue team and delivered into the opposing base. A bomb carrier cannot carry the bomb and shoot their weapon at the same time. The bomb must be defended for one full minute to successfully detonate and win once delivered into the enemy base.. If an enemy player gets a hand on the bomb while it is planted, bomb is diffused and must be replanted to start another countdown.

Juggernaut is a neutral environmental unit, and is not in play until tagged in. To tag the Jugg in, simply lay a hand on him and call out your own team colour so that he can hear it. He will then 'power up' and engage your enemy team. (Ex. you call Blue, he goes after Red, and vice versa.) Juggernaut is invulnerable to all incoming weapons fire except for a weak spot attached to the front of his chest, like a bike bell or a small metal plate. If the object is hit, the Jugg is disabled until tagged in again. He cannot be knifed or in any way taken down with a melee strike, his armor is considered too potent. A grenade or other form of explosive can defeat him if it goes off in front of him. The Juggernaut can be treated as walking cover so a player can use him as such and can even shoot over his shoulder or around his sides, but cannot make or ask the Juggernaut to stop. He must always be moving towards the enemy objective whenever tagged in. Juggernaut cannot freeroam, they are either stationary when not tagged in/downed, or moving in a relatively straight path towards the current enemy.
Exceptions are for maneuvering difficult terrain, moving around objects of cover, and possibly into buildings if allowed.*

*If Juggernaut is allowed into a building that is along their walking path, they must enter the closest doorway to them and exit as reasonably possibly from the opposite side with a continual walk through the building, unless engaging an enemy.

Players are killed with one hit, but have unlimited respawns to make this a fast and furious game scenario. Players start the game at their respective main spawn points and can re-enter the game from the secondary or tertiary spawn points as well, provided there is at least three players available to spawn in at that point..

My apologies in advance if this is not the correct spot to post all of this in, but I figured since it is technically a themed suit based off of a video game that I would try here!

That is an awesome armor set, I always thought about the juggernaut suit but it looked like a headache to try and recreate. How did you make the collar and what materials did you use? I'm actually really interested in it and want to try to make my own.

Great kit!

I believe I have found a video that depicts the type of game that you were describing.

The collar is actually multiple layers or EVA foam measured and shaped for my approximate shoulder circumference and into a design that I thought was suitable, and was then attached with gorilla glue and then smoothed down once dry. Several layers of PVA glue/white glue were applied to seal and coat the porous material as well as prepare for applying liquid plastic resin. Resin mixture was blended then applied to the collar interior as well as the exterior side and allowed to rotate slightly after several minutes, then allowed to dry over night. The next day, I spray painted the interior a matte black and the exterior something as close as I could find to an OD Green, in this case I believe it was "Rebar Green" as found in Home Depot, I will go look once the can un-hides itself and verify. After the paint dried, a second layer of resin was applied onto the layer of paint to seal it in, and now the collar is rather firm, but still has some flex to it.

If you want to make something like this, go to a home depot, rona, canadian tire or other work hardware store and look around for EVA foam, should have a diamond or checkered pattern on the back and it comes in various sizes and thicknesses, I think mine came in a roll of 4~5mm thick. You will need some latex or similar gloves to handle the resin and spray painting unless you don't mind getting paint on your fingers/hands. I used a bar table resin that came in 2 bottles, the resin and an activator. Best recommendation is finding some that mixes 1:1 ratio. I bought some dixie cups and poured up to the same lines in the cups for what I felt was accurate measurements. Get some cheap paint brushes that you are willing to throw away because as after you apply resin to your project with them, they are as good as in the garbage already.

Thank you very much, I appreciate it! Hah, ScouttheDoggie's video is literally what inspired me to make the suit actually! As well as the idea for the Jugg being tagged into play for a team, I just felt it was a great way to include him without making it overpowered or just a game of 20 guys vs the one jugg. I even sent Scout a message over YT thanking him and linking him to my work so far!

Would these be the ones you are recommending?

Damascus DSG100 Hard Shell Shin Guards with Non-Slip Knee Pads, X-Large - Work Wear Kneepads - Amazon.com

If so, they do look very nice, I might be able to spray them down green as well, hopefully without causing much if any damage to the material. Plus, they certainly do look great!

Also I might look at grabbing a pair of the Damacus forearm pads, linked below. They have considerable padding and provide protection to the inside of my forearms, something I don't have armor covering at the moment.

Damascus FP10 Imperial EVA Forearm Protectors - Tactical Forearm Guard - Amazon.com

Haha, definitely a great idea, and as a plus, it looks like it would be a very intense, back and forth game. Watching his videos is actually what inspired me to get involved in the airsoft community here on ASC

So I went out to my local airsoft field this past Sunday with the Juggernaut suit to use for specialty games. The suit held up rather well, but I definitely have some gaps in armor that I will need to fill. Examples being inner and outer thighs as well as inner forearms and small pocket gaps where the ball and socket connect at the shoulder. As posted above and recommended by Redzaku, I will be looking at those Damascus protector guards for full knee to foot coverage, as well as those forearm protectors. I think they will provide a great amount of coverage for the inner areas of my arms, and the shoulder to bicep guards they have available might be good as well. If anyone has any different recommendations to compare against Damascus parts, please feel free to share.

Any suggestions on how to improve the setup or add to the design, or any comments in general are appreciated.

To add for the update, I include pretty pictures!

Photo from the day of play wearing all of the gear plus the A&K Mk43. Had a couple box loading issues that day but when the gun worked it was shooting ropes with crazy accuracy, with a $5.99 Lomex hopup upgrade. So glad I picked that up!

Another game idea for juggernaut use is VIP

Escort the VIP through the assassins from point a to b, anytime the VIP gets hit you both need to red pawn back to point A

Assassins need to wait 1-5 min depending on field size.

Pad up, the juggernaut takes a pounding

Interesting scenario indeed, may have to try something like that on a field sometime, players be willing.

Currently the suit is padded with up to +20mm of eva foam across the whole front of the body. I had a friend punch me in the chest and barely felt anything other than the pushing effect. Same with the back of the vest and the sides, the spine has atleast 10-15mm of padding going vertically as well as across the lower sides of the back in an inverted T shape. Definitely stands up to full auto fire so far.

Next update I have a youtube video I am making to help get this out there, as I would love to travel around Southern Ontario and come out to games if people want to try something involving a Juggernaut. Gonna be kind of cheesy production-wise but it could do for now. Also will be working on an idea that a local airsoft field owner and I were discussing in-store. Something along the lines of a bank heist which I think would be a fantastic heavy weapons-fire style of game.

As per last post, a little update to be posted. Finished putting together some small clips I recorded into a video regarding the project. I know it's... a bit cheesy, but I thought it was alright. :P

Also for scenario game ideas I am working on the idea what was suggested by a field owner for something along the lines of a bank heist, I will post that when I can get rule ideas worked out, and of course suggestions are welcome.

I've wanted to build this suit for a while now and was quite happy to start and get it put together for Anime North as well as Niagara Falls Comic Con, had such a great time meeting friendly people and talking about well, anything. Since I have this functioning suit now for airsoft, I want to see if there are any fields in and around southern Ontario that would be interested in the inclusion of a juggernaut suit for some special scenarios.

I've made a Facebook page to have somewhere more social to post content as well, and will be uploading videos to Youtube that will go to the Fb page as well when new content rolls in. I will be gathering what action footage that I can with a Sony Action Cam HDR-AS30V to edit and upload after each game I can attend with the suit.

Anyway, here is the video link to YT as well as to the FB page if anyone is interested. I figure the video would be nice because it gives a bit more life into showcasing the suit setup thus far.
*There is some music on the Yt video, so start with your volume down a bit in case it pops up loudly. *
