H&k EF/VFC 417D upgrades.

Hey all i'm finally back again with another gun. About 2 days ago I purchased this beautiful B**** and I was just wondering about upgrades and if they are even available. I've read it's a version two gear box but with a few twists with the separate trigger contact section and a larger cylinder. Anyone have this gun and/or have upgraded one and found it to be difficult to find part ? I'm still in the honeymoon phase with this thing so I don't plan on upgrading yet, just looking for future consideration. Thanks.

V2.2 gearbox they call it. Longer and with the trigger mech out front. The cylinder is not larger - in fact I think all the internal parts are the same (except the nozzle may be different?).

Only thing I've done to mine is Sorbo/AOE, longer barrel, unported cylinder and running it off a MERF3.2 on 11.1V. Oh yeah, I completely burned out the contacts on 11.1V before I installed the mosfet.

I find the hop-up is very tight, so most buckings will be too thick to fit. I did get a Modify Baton Ryusoku to fit though, surprisingly.

We'll I had ordered a MOSFET from one of the places here in Toronto but after my shipment was confirmed they decided to tell me my Mosfet was no longer in stock ... not too impressed. How long do you think I can pull off not using on with a 11.1 ? I have a 7.4 lipo if you think that would be a bit safer. Getting new trigger contacts if I cant get my MOSFET in time is easy or will I be having trouble finding parts locally ?

On a side note. I just bought a Go pro hero 3+ and I'm a little worried about it getting shot. Will it do damage if / when it gets hit ?

I personally have never had any of my gopro cameras break and they get shot all of the time. I would grab some replacement lenses for the protective case and just giver.

So I was browsing a couple websites and found a 6.03 550mm inner barrel and also a madbull blue bucking. Will I require any further modifications for this setup to work inside the 417 or is the cylinder / head good enough ?

why 550? 455 is longest I'd bother with... If you sorbo a full cylinder and use a 550 you might be undervolumed.

I have done anything to this rifle yet. Bought it last week and looking to make it DMR style. 455 eh. What about the madbull bucking?

I always have a problem with buying the biggest of everything i can get and it usually ends up screwing me in the end so thats why i came here. :\

research will be important... I don't know if the cylinder in the 417 is standard or not, stealth should be able to say. But in terms of upgrading, my experience has shown that bore length doesn't matter as much as the quality of the bore. As long as the barrel has the proper air volume ratio to the cylinder, it's fine. The only reason to go longer is to make sure your BBs will clear a suppressor if it stops short. I've had BBs hit the inside of a silencer can because the inner barrel wasn't completely centered inside.

Other folks that I would trust with the guts of my guns (aside from myself) have done more extensive testing and concluded the optimal barrel length is somewhere between 400-455mm. Beyond that, it becomes cumbersome and diminishing returns.

I personally don't like madbull buckings, but my experience is limited. The few I have tried to install are difficult to seat properly. I don't bother much with standard buckings much anymore.. if it's a standard one, it'll be lonex or pdi W hold. All my personal AEGs are R-hoped.
