how does a airsoft silencer or flash suppressor work?
I am currently researching my first aeg, and am wondering some rifles appear to have in silencer such as the mp5 sd6 or a muzzle /flash suppressor. Do these serve the same purpose as their real live counterparts or do they in effect increase barrel length or some other effect?

Silencer can hide a longer inner barrel, but often its only for the look!

Depends on what ya get.
Some are just purely for looks, Other's muffle the sound a little bit. |

Ok here is a crystal clear answer for ya.
Airsoft silencers: Most of them are only used for covering a longer inner barrel, Tho some do have a slight silencing effect. (They change the tone of the sound from the barrel from a "crack" sound to a "pfft", The pfft is less audioable (sp?) over distance.) The actual silencer itself does nothing as far as increasing barrel length goes, You'd have to purchase a longer inner barrel if you wanted to extend your guns inner barrel length. If I may ask, What gun are you using and what are you trying to achieve out of it by using a silencer/suppressor? |

Silencers can help in dampening the sound coming from your muzzle and further conceal your position. *NOTE* it doesn't help much in CQC because they will hear the gearbox noise, but it is good for ranged engagements.
Silencers, if not used to dampen sound, it can be used to hide extended inner barrels for greater accuracy. *NOTE* Make sure you have something stablizing the barrel from moving freely within the silencer.

I decided to get a silencer because the sound the AEG makes is more akin to a real steel with a sliencer on... in a way, the whole sound picture is more believable as real steel with the silencer on your AEG, I think. Well, except for the 'whirrr'ing :|

could an airsoft suppressor incresse aim or range because it consentrates the air at the end of the muzzle or something like that

Holy fucking necro.
And no, 99% of airsoft supressors have absolutly no effect on performance whatsoever.
