Gbb Vs AEG?
Hey guys
I'm just curious, what's the advantages of having a gbb rifle over an AEG? thanks. |

GBBR's are just more fun to shoot, once you go gas you never go back lol. No electronics to worry about, the only batteries you need are for accessories. The ability to slap on real steel parts with little to no modding. More realistic compared to an AEG.

The main advantage on getting a gas blow back rifle is its more realistic, and fun to shoot. There are other reasons why people get them, but that's the main reason. Check out some other forums on this website for a more in depth answer.

GBBRs are more fun, easier to work on, more expensive to run and more tempermental.
I love mine and it's becoming my go to gun. |

It's true, once you go gas you never go back, it's much more fun, no wiring, or charging batteries, quicker trigger to fire response time compared to lower end AEGs. Downsides are hard to use in cold weather due to the compression of the Propane gas, and having cold mags. Try both, see what suits you. Another downside to GGB is that Mags are way more expensive. But in the end the realism and feel overwhelm the downsides, and you can always find ways to compensate.

I really want to try buy a gas rifle, but It seems to make more sense to stay electric.
Reasons for electric over gas: - Cheaper to run, no need to buy gas. - Mag's are a lot cheaper and you do't have to worry about leaks or maintaining them. - Mag's only hold around 30 rounds, which would be ok if it were a real gun but when shooting bb's through dense bush you really need a 120rd midcap. - Mag's needing to be metal are a lot heavier than say Pmags. and you have to carry 4x as many to match an AEG players loadout. - You can run it all year round. Gas wont work in the winter. That being said. I would love to have someone perswade me to go buy a gas rifle. I love using gas pistols indoors. I just need an excuse.

As a power source, it balances out in regards to how much you have to spend to get the gun working, as with electric you have to buy multiple batteries a smart charger, make the gearbox lipo safe/efficient with a mosfet. Also the amount of upgrade parts you need to improve a GBBR is far less than on an AEG. Mags hold 39 rounds, yeah but it makes you more selective of your shots (I play more milsims than skirms so even when I had an AEG, I would be fine with real cap loads). Yes they are heavy but they're a hell of a lot more durable than the metal midcaps i used to run. Sure gas guns wont work great in the cold, but its awesome not having to worry about moisture build up inside of a gearbox or having to waterproof battery connectors. Gas is a lot of fun, simple to understand, compromises have to be made with both AEG or GBBR, but for me the realism and simplicity far outweighs the advantages of an AEG. no sewing machine for me. |

It's all about realism with Gas. but its always good to have a spare AEG for When winter rolls around. Why choose one when you can have both!

Gas:
Instant trigger response, and no semi auto seizures More realistic dimensions (receivers and grips don't have to be bigger to house a mechbox, and you don't have to find a spot to put a battery) More realistic functionality (field stripping, bolt catch etc) Rounds go straight from mag to chamber (stops shooting when empty, you don't have 4 stupid BBs left in the mag) Electric: More accurate/consistent More reliable Cheaper Internally more customizable Comments: GBB recoil will never be anything remotely close to real steel AEG magazines CAN hold more rounds |

Who cares about holding more rounds. Last I checked this was Airsoft not paintball. So many myths here.
As long as you do proper maintenance a GBB should last. If you RA-Tech your WE it will last. I've seen GBB work both winter and summer ( CO2 works for this). With an NPAS FPS is easy to adjust. And I have never seen an AEG equal the trigger response of a GBB. I've only seen PTWs come close

Comes down to fun factor.
GBBR's can be a PITA at times (mags/parts/etc...)...but mostly so because of the way they work. Big, heavy, not-great metal chunks slamming back and forth....they eventually beat themselves to death. And when there's a feeding issue it's often a stop issue since the heavy bolts/parts will mangle the BB and you'll end up picking out the broken bits. Easy to work on when they do need work though. But the fun in the use of them can't be beat vs. a PTW/AEG/HPA/etc setup. Just not the same. Mag capacity tends to be real cap...and they work best on semi. If you want a laser beam, high capacity, potentially-uber-silent rifle then stick with an AEG/PTW. They work, they're simple, they're mild-PITA-fiddly-headscratching to figure out when they break. If you're the only guy using a real cap gas rifle in a field of ammo'd up AEGs...you might feel "outgunned"...can still be totally enjoyable for some though. But when you're at games where lots/most people are using them...or when the game rules are ammo-limited...then there's really no downside IMO (other than when a firefight breaks out you can definitely hear it and zero in on where it's happening). More so at indoor places, but when you're at a field game and everyone's using a GBBR it's a very much more so immersive experience than with AEGs. Fun factor. |

IMO, the biggest deciding factor is cost.
I'd highly recommend AEGs for anyone new to the sport, but as in any hobby, the further you get into it, the more expensive and advanced your gear becomes. GBBs are a natural evolutionary step, so to speak. |
