Lonex Extreme Toughness 10 Steel Tooth Piston - Is it Polycarbonate or not?

hey guys...

So i went out of my way to avoid picking up a Poly Carbonate piston as i cracked the last two pistons i had with pre-engagement issues.

I was told to avoid PC pistons.

The description of this Lonex piston was "extremely durable nylon fiber" (which is the material i was told to use).

I just received the piston and there are at least 4 references to "Polycarbonate" on the package!!! It's the most polycarbonate piston ever made by man i swear...

so what's the deal guys? Nylon Fiber or PC?

Nylon Fiber.

Watch what gears you plan to use with these. The reinforcement limits the compatible gear sets to a handful of brands. More details on my product page.

Source: I have 10 of these sitting beside me. No way in hell they are polycarbonate, despite the obvious label on the packaging.

Yup, they are 30% glass-filled nylon polyamide, which makes it very good material. However, Lonex pistons are quite heavy, so you should swiss cheese them. Like Stealth said, only certain gears work (ACM, Lonex, etc.)

We've conveniently measured the width of the rack and put it up on the product listing.

(4.52mm)
LES BOOM. (see how much we love you guys?)

They're definitely glass-reinforced nylon. These feel and sound distinctly different from polycarb and even other nylon pistons.

I would love to see a full metal rack on a factory-lightened version of these...

i'm in the middle of swiss cheesing mine right now.

i just sanded and polished the gearbox rails and everything.

If the gun chews up this piston the entire thing is going in the garbage i swear.

Make sure your AOE is corrected and if it is a V2 gearbox, radius the corners and install a sorbo pad to prevent it from cracking. Also, you might want to short stroke a couple of teeth from the pick up side, since you said you had pre-engagement issues.

I keep finding, little pieces of my blue lonex piston in my gearbox. They seem to mostly come from the side rails, hmmm I might have to buy a red one eventually....

Polycarbonate is a whole family of materials, not only the glass polycarbonate that is know to crack.

They also make nylon reinforced polycarbonate, so yes, it can still be.
BUT it's not because a plane has 4 wheels that it's a car... same relation here. Not because it's a polycarb that it will break like glass.

Similar to polymeres... some are soft ans squishy like goo, some are harder than steel.
