Stay with stock until something breaks. Once your trigger group breaks, use CWI trigger group instead. The RATech steel bolt is around $100, the steel trigger group is around $130.

I suggest you check out these two links:

(RATech currently has the 3rd revision of the bolt released so some mods may not apply)

Hi all,

I own 10 we rifles. I have upgraded the gutz on my m4. But through that experice I learned that stock is better till a failure then replace with ratech or tsc parts.

For upgrades have dremel handy and patience.

Cheers

It's cheaper to stay stock, and replace the broken parts with OEM parts. It's cheaper and it doesn't wear fast. IE; For 1 Aluminium-grade nozzle catch, you can have 10 OEM ones.

All-around, the OEM WE parts are pretty good out of the box. The only thing I changed on mine was the Hop-Up rubber and a NPAS. That's it.

Also, the trigger box isn't something that breaks often, so that'll be my last of worries.

You will not get any performance improvement out of those upgrades except a bit more felt recoil from the heavier bolt. Those parts will just last almost forever as opposed to the stock pot metal parts.

From experience I suggest that you keep the gun as is until you need to change something out.

Which is why Turok suggested Cwi. The Ratech trigger has an issue that causes run away fire.

You just need to mod the sear or wear it out.. it also depends on which gen trigger set u have. Or best yet, stay away from RATech, stick with CWI as per my post above.

I know there are multiple threads on this subject, but seeing as it is being currently discussed, and I have been thinking of investing in a GBBR: What things should be upgraded right off the bat when purchasing a WE open-bolt M4? I'm hinting at past suggestions of buying an NPAS right off the bat as I have seen in some of the other threads, and similar other suggestions. Just looking to see if there is some other things I should set money aside for to purchase when purchasing a GBBR (I'm a budgeting kinda guy). I'm all about waiting until things break, but if there is something that commonly breaks first, or there are additions right off the bat needed for optimum performance, I wouldn't mind buying them right away that way when they do break I can just do a quick swap.

Drake has said it best in a few threads.

A spare bolt and a trigger pack are what you need to carry.

So I got the RA-tech bolt with NPAS and the complete RAtech trigger pack. They plugged in with only minor work on the hold open catch needed. The original parts go into the case as backups.

1. Get an NPAS if u want to adjust fps
2. Get a better charging handle for m4/m16/416 as the neck tends to snap
3. Get a better inner barrel and hop up rubber for improved accuracy and air sea

Ill be trying the new ratech reinforced bolt catch at the end of February and report back with my results

The compatible with WE charging handle I got in was the most problematic thing I've put on.

It took hours of grinding and it still didn't fit. Eventually I spent about the same about of time I'd spent grinding and peened it till the system would cycle as well as with the stock handle.
