cutting some of the barrel of a tri-shot shotty
hey guys tierone sells a $100 shotgun with a swivel stock that is a tri shot. i really like the gun a lot but i find the barrel way to long. i have tried to find a version with a smaller barrel with no luck. has anyone herd of someone sawing off a few inches with success.

Have you even seen it in person first?

I could have done that work for you, but since you're across the country from me that will not happen anytime soon...

Here's a crazy idea: why don't you just buy the shorter one instead?

I removed the stock off mine to make it shorter. I found it a lot easier than cutting the barrel especially since there isn't a whole lot you can cut off on that model.

You need to cut the plastic barrel and the 3 internal barrels...I suggest using a table saw
I'd leave some of it to put the front sight and the end plug

The front sight assembly and endcap on those models are removable, and you should be able to cut 3-4" off of the outer barrel/ tube if you're careful (mine is in a different province so I can't give you an exact measurement).
However, full-size 1014s are rad and you can, with a bit of effort, learn to use one in a very tight cqb environment effectively if you so choose (I did, it's a steep curve but rewarding). If you manage this, you can look into re-cutting longer inner barrels and installing them to make up for the unused space in the outer. This of course all depends on what you want to accomplish with this shotgun. If you're interested in slinging it in your armpit for "breaching" as a secondary, you would do well to look into the 'shorty' versions as suggested, or one of the Marushin clones. |

If you were AV'd you could lurk the classifieds, shottys seem to be popping up in there pretty frequently lately.

why would you shorten it anyway?
-it's a 1014.Shortening a 1014 is a crime on top of looking bad -it is not too long even for CQB.It's easier to learn to move around with it, you can even do it home while chairsofting. -it's already not very precise as it is, shortening it won't make it better. -it's barely longuer than the M3, seriously you probably won't feel the difference.

I read this because I was hoping to find info on cutting and polishing the cut edge of an inner barrel, but upon looking at the gun you linked, I noticed its shooting 373 fps. Thats a bit hot for cqb anyways, at least most places I play that is cqb only, there is a limit of 350 fps. Just a thought. Perhaps if you just get the gun you will find it not so bad. Good luck on your barrel shortening quest, however. I will stay tuned to this thread, as i would love to have more info on modding barrels.

Don't quote me on this, but 373fps sounds like one of those 'importation friendly' numbers and does not reflect the actual performance at all.
Every shell-fed tri-shot shotgun I've ever had or crono'd has shot pretty solidly under 300fps. |

shortening an inner barrel is easy, metal saw + file.
