i heard of 2 ways to get it off
1. put it in boiling water for a few minutes and wrench it off 2. use snips and cut it off bit by bit * hair dryer doesnt get hot enough and heat gun only melts the outside

I used a hair dryer once. Didn't work so i tried hot steam didn't work either. I ended up just cutting the flash hider off with a dremel then used a flat head screw driver to scratch the access glue off the threads.

I always use boiling hot water for mine. Both plastic and metal. Make sure you know for sure what the threading of the barrel is. Some are harder than others, but the longer it'd sit and the harder I'd turn it it would always end up working out.

If it's the metal one, why not just paint it?

I just use a crude method for plastic flash hiders - bolt cutters. Start at the top and make 4 cuts quartering the flash hider. Then pick one or two sides and just continue cutting it until you reach the beginning of the barrel. Should come off pretty easily with some pliers, but a dremel might be needed to get the base of the flash hider off.
Took about 10 mins to get my off that way.

I tried a bunch of things but it still won't budge I think I need a vice. I'm pretty sure it's reverse threading, I would just paint it but I use tracer units. I have to get a tech to do it. Should I use Toronto Airsoft or mach1 Airsoft? By the way is it possible to swap the pistol grip to a magpul m.o.e pistol grip? The angle on them is slightly different.

if it's a metal flash hider, you can heat it with a propane torch. works like a charm!

Oh we do hate you, just never felt like wasting the time to give you a user title :P

put some tape on the barrel and use a pair of pipe wrenches or a pipe wrench and an adjustable or some vise grips and an adjustable or two vice grips, the three i couldnt get off wer glued/loc tited on there but the leverage with the two wrenches worked easy. Also make sure there isnt a set screw on the flash hider.

For a metal flash hider a torch or gas stove burner works well because it a) loosens the glue bond and b) causes the flash hider to expand slightly.
With the judicious application of heat (real heat, not a hair dryer) the removal is trivial. Do strip the gun down first though... If the flash hider is plastic, then boiling water for a minute or so should do the trick. I've done both for the different materials and not damaged anything in the process. |
