King Arms & CYMA AK Compatibility
Just doing a bit of research on some AK handguard and tactical kits and have made some final decisions, but now stopped in my tracks.
I've read that King Arms/VFC AK parts are more comparible in fitment to real steel therefore not fitting with CYMA and other brands - how accurate is this? Have also come accross a brand called Hephaestus which makes some nice RIS kits but google can't find anything on compatibility. I'm still very green to the AK platform so go easy on me |

You're thinking of the CYMA -04X series, VFC, and Dboys full steel AKs. The CYMA -04X series rifles are clones of VFC guns which are clones of LCT guns and a different brand that I forgot about. The Dboys AKs are full copies of LCT rifles. Long story short is that KA rifles are TM AK47 style while CYMA, VFC, and Dboys are all to RS spec. I believe that TM style hand guards are slightly smaller than RS style hand guards, and know for sure that stocks won't be compatible between the CYMA, VFC, and Dboys rifles and the TM style rifles. Also, the stock tang for the AKM and AK74 are different on the RS spec rifles. If you want more information, I'd recommend running a search on the Red Alliance forums.

Well that's kind of wrong. CYMA makes both TM and VFC style clones, so it depends what gun you have.

I have the Hephaestus kit on my AK. The lower rail mounts on no problem, same as any standard AK handguard. I did, however, have to cut off the cleaning rod holding ring that's attached to the gas tube.
The top part of the rail requires a removable gas tube, and that the gas tube on your AK isn't attached to the receiver.

Hey Rabbit, it should be a straight swap for your CYMA AK-105 gas tube and the King Arms one. CYMA actually makes the exact same part as King Arms, and I'm pretty sure it's a direct copy.
I've never seen the King Arms one in real life, but the CYMA railed gas tube is very solid and has no issues fitting on my DBoys AK-105. The best way to tell if it will fit is if you can pull the gas tube off by pushing the lever on the right side of the rear sight block up and then sliding the gas tube out. If the whole gas tube comes out, then thankfully you have a real steel copy instead of the Tokyo Marui design. I know that the King Arms railed gas tube requires modification to the King Arms gas block assembly for installation (not sure what the mod is), but IF you have the real steel gas tube I just mentioned, then the King Arms should litteraly be a plug and play situation with no modding needed. The King Arms gas block however, might not fit easily. But if you're just interested in getting the railed gas tube, then go with the CYMA. A lot cheaper and very sturdy. Quote:

Also, the Haphestus series is designed for the real steel clone design like LCT/Classic Army/VFC/DBoys/some CYMA/Inokatsu and Guarder.
Another way to tell if you have a real steel clone is by removing the lower handguard. If there is a large cavity (approx 2-2.5cm across) in the lower front of the receiver (body of the gun), and the handguard retainer uses a pin or grub screw system to stay in place, then you've got a real steel clone. If the cavity is pretty small (approx 1cm across) and the handguard retainer is held in place through pressure or a knotch hanging down from the gas block, then you've got stinky Tokyo Marui style. lol Sorry to throw all of that at you man. I've owned just about every type of airsoft AK under the sun and tried to mod every single one of them, so I've learned a lot about fitment between the brands.
If you have anymore questions, feel free to pm me. I'm always happy to help people discover the beauty that is the airsoft AK. lol |
