HK MP-1247 ak-47 polymer body 7.62x39 PDW concept/modification
Ladies and gentlemen, I present to you the Heckler & Koch MP-1247.
(a work in progress) About the name, 12=year of creation, first prototype/MP family designation, 47=designates gas piston type and ammunition fired. MP-1274 name reserved for the 5.45x39 version Last edited by ArmorerKen; June 13th, 2012 at 17:47.. |

The thoughts behind this:
Need: Compact rifle/personal defense weapon using available 7.62x39 ammunition and magazines. Similar in use/take-down/service as AK family of rifles for user familiarity/expectation. Target manufacturer: Heckler & Koch Target market: Elite units of military and security organizations that field the 7.62x39 round and the AK magazine among basic infantry units. Contractors and advisers to theaters of conflict where 7.62x39 ammunition is common. Concept: Polymer body AK-47 7.62x39 magazine SBR/PDW. Expansion chamber flash hider (not a silencer!), allows standard load 7.62x39 to be fired with less recoil/minimal flash from a 5-6 inch barrel. Pics attached show what I have done so far. AK purists, no AK's were harmed in the creation of this concept rifle. It started life as a TM Beta Spetznaz. The fire select switch is a 'works like' mock up, that works very nicely, I will make a more 'H&K' looking one (or just make that one look better). Things left to do are: Another guide coat and sanding, H&k emblem and prototype serial etc. engraved in side of receiver. Much filling and sanding. Possibly some ribs in receiver sides emulating the recessed areas on MP5K and MP5PDW. Make or provision a left folding or center slide (collapse?) stock. Should look 'H&K'. Make a 'looks like' model expansion chamber flash hider tough enough for field use (mock up in pics of early concept is acrylic tube over old AR-15 flash hider with tape to friction fit and cover clear acrylic, in the photos). Add gas tube extension into expansion chamber thingamajig from just under front sight. Possibly relocate front sight to front of expansion/flash hider as exp/flash is supposedly integral (i.e. VSS suppressor). Questions: Do you like it? What would you change? How many rails would be to many? Where? What did I miss? how to make this more realistic, both in function and in its branding of H&K? Final paint? Black? Desert? Multicam? Edit: More pics, with receiver cover on, rear iron sight and rail screwed in tight, but will likely fill gaps (bondo, or jb weld) to make it look clean and neat. Edit: 2 more new pics added. cleaner front without grill and no red dot. Size comparison. Last edited by ArmorerKen; June 14th, 2012 at 18:03.. |
