Hop-Up Advice

Hello,

I gamed my FAMAS recently, and I learned that the stock hop-up sucks @$$. So, I'm trying to get a new hop.

However, there's at least a million manufacturers out there, each advertising to be 'the best'.

To complicate things more, there's silicon ones, rubber ones, mixed ones, and they all have varying degrees of hardness; 50, 65, 70, 95, 120, and more.

I'm still a noob in terms of detailed parts of the gun, so could someone please tell me what the advantages and disadvantages of silicon, rubber, and composite hops, the meaning of hardness degree, and recommendations for a good hop brand? Also, are there separate complete V1 hops for sale?

It's quite a bit, but I'm hoping to get the best deal and performance possible out of this.

Thank you!

Did you search at all? I searched when i was curious and found that the hardness needs to be matched to the fps of the gun. Lower the number the softer. Go soft for low fps and harder for high fps. Different manufacturers have different recommendations about what the fps range should be for a given hardness.

Generally speaking, there are two classes of rubbers - hard and soft. The general rule-of-thumb is to use a soft rubber if you're rifle's velocity is under 400 fps, and a hard rubber for velocities over 400 fps. Some manufacturers provide a number, while other are just colour coded for hardness/softness.

Airsoft research Syndicate hop-up rubber paired with a shredder's concave spacer.

Boom. Applications of high friction from a soft rubber while having a hard spacer to provide all the pressure on the BB that is required.

Best of both worlds!

Don't mean to thread jack -

You've preached ARS sleeves and scs's for awhile - just out of curiosity what type of inner barrels do you use?

Also, given the choice between a Guarder Bucking and an Element Bucking, which would you choose?

Guarder Black - im using one right now and its great.

Guarder clears rip too easily and I dont like the idea of multiple pieces and metal on metal contact with my hop-up sleeves in regards to the Element.

I've been using the Madbull red bucking with the H-shaped nub for a couple recent updated rifles firing between 400 - 420fps. I'm very pleased with the accuracy.

Going forward though I'll be moving everything to R-hop, as it pretty much smokes everything else and lets you use any bucking and chamber you want..

Yup thats it - however I like to support sites & retailers in Canada - two of my favs below:

http://www.airsoftparts.ca/store2/in...roducts_id=642

http://airsoftdepot.ca/catalog/produ...products_id=77

If I had the choice tho - I would have went with the ARS hop-up sleeve and nub except airsoftparts.ca has been sold out for quite some time so i settled for the guarder black but its very far from disappointment as well.

R-hop if you want to take your time to install, go with a Flat Hop if you want a simple and fast method.

http://www.airsoftforum.com/board/ho...l-t225374.html The Rhop is a hop up system that vastly improves your aeg's range. It frees up your hop up rubber for use purely for air seal purposes and you can use any rubber you want. They also practically never wear out compared to normal hop up rubbers.

Normally it takes time, effort and luck to fit it to your barrel but HunterSeeker now sells now sells a Z kit that comes with 3 universal sizes so it is a drop in replacement. https://sites.google.com/site/hsarmo...-kit-explained

Haven't tried it myself but my order is coming soon. If it's as good as everyone's claiming, I'm switching all my AEGs over.
