ICS SIG-552 handguard for paintball

Hey folks,

Although this is a paintball-related question, its something that only you airsoft guys are likely to be able to answer.

I'm looking at converting a mag-fed Tippmann X7 Phenom into a SIG 552 Commando. As with all things paintball, finding the right parts for a real-steel look is a chore - particularly when it comes to handguards. I'm trying to avoid having to mold/cut/glue and otherwise Frankenstein my way to the right look, so I've come to you! I'm hoping to avoid all that by modifying some airsoft parts. Not much point in asking this question on a paintball forum.

My question is: is there enough space inside the ICS 552 handguard to accommodate the larger bore of a paintball barrel? Obviously some modifications will need to be done but I'm curious as to whether this could work in theory. If anyone has handled one of these I'd be curious to know your thoughts.

Thanks in advance for any insights.

I assume there would be enough space. It's not like the handguards are tiny.
And yes you may have to enlarge the barrel opening and may have to cut away some support structure inside.
