ARES M4-FF-M Problem

So i recently bought this gun. http://www.milsig.ca/store/index.php...oducts_id=1054

And well after having to fix a gear and latch spring its awesome...except for one thing...
the mags....

It came with one midcap mag (metal) that fits perfectly. How ever My KA mid caps do not...not even close actually. The hole where the mag release clips into doesn't fit a normal KA mag. It is about 1/2 mil to high. Iv looked at modifying the mags but even if i modify one it can still slip out if i so much as knock the mag.

Does anyone know of compatible mags? Brands? link to where to buy? Or a how to to modify either the mags (properly) or the mag release well. (i would like to avoid the latter at all costs though)

I will post picstures of the problem if i can figure out how without uploading all to facebook.

You don't need to bump a 2-hour old thread, but okay.

Anyways, Ares is known for terribly proprietary parts, which may or may not include the mags. You may want to take a look at Ares' mags (Not the one you have, though) and compare it to other brands.

I have the same gun. I would check how you reassembled your gun just in case something is off. As for mags I have only had a problem with one mag. I couldn't tell you the make but it is a Canadian style poly mag. Other than that I have a number of different mags including the cheap Ares plastic mags and haven't had a problem. I bought these http://airsoftdepot.ca/catalog/produ...roducts_id=831 and they work great as well.

As for proprietary parts I think Ares built an unfortunate reputation by doing this in the past. I haven't found it to be the case with their new stuff.
I should add I don't have any KA mags.

Ares mags are "Shooter" brand mags. For metal they're like 17 a piece. I don't know where to get them online though. Greenbox p-mags also work according to most youtube reviews if albeit a kinda tight fit.

Try getting some STAR mags, they're really cheap and should fit.

I tried Emags and they didnt fit at all....

Also for the man that said they have the same gun...
Is the ff-M? or the ff-l? they look the same (not sure of difference) and there is also the ff-cqb that looks more like a shortenedM4 with a built on front sight.

Also the green label are famous for not feeding right and not working out of box....so id like to avoid that if possible. And arnt the emags and Green label almost the same?

They all use the same lower receiver so specific model shouldn't matter. At this point I'd say just take it to your local shop and see what fits. But again shooter mags are guaranteed to work.

Wouldn't hurt to try, considering Star and Ares were practically the same company not too long ago.

Would you happen to have a link to a shooter site?
Iv tried looking but you try googelig shooter brand mags lol all iget is every site that says shooter...and there are a LOT

And i will prob take my Ares to Capital airsoft (local shop) and try to find a mag. Im just not sure they will have a mag. they usually only have KA and well i know that wont work haha

Also i never knew star and ares were together...thats almost frightening considering stars reputation lol

I can't find an online store either but I did find their catalogue.

http://aresairsoft.com/mag.html

Talk to your local shop owner if you want them ordered. They're a little steep but they're made of steel and they feed well I haven't had a single misfeed during three all day games.

I have an ares m4, and I use King arms mid caps. You can get them at some local retailers or redwolf. It fits perfectly, after you add some tape around it.

Iv tried that....it wont even lock...the best i can do is jam it in there...but then i have to hold the mag tight in it and well suffice to say it becomes a huge pain in the ass with feeding issues...and im lucky if i can get it to ACTUALLY shoot once out of every 10 times i try lol.
