New guy looking for a gun.

Hello everybody,

I am new to playing airsoft and it is time to purchase my first gun. In order to make the right decision I hope to get a couple of good tips and tricks from you guys.

The guns i am looking at:

1) VFC UMAREX HK 416 CQC Full trades Special OFFER: Battery/Charger included!! (615$)http://mach1airsoft.com/site/node/779
2) Jing Gong - Full Metal HK416 Crane **NEW GENERATION** (369$)http://torontoairsoft.com/product.php?id_product=1649
3)C-TAC M4 Raptor (539$)
https://www.buyairsoft.ca/rifles/ele...m4-raptor.html

I also looked at the Velocity Arms Tactical Zombie Killer (419$) but sadly it is sold out and i can not fund another source for it, any help?
http://torontoairsoft.com/product.php?id_product=1474
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
So here are my questions:

Which gun would you recommend? How does the JG compare to the VC HK416 considering the price difference.

I learned that i need to change springs in most guns to make them playable in CQB style scenarios, what kind of spring do i need where can i get i from, can i install it by myself?

And if you guys could also tell me if all those fonts are 14mm fronts so i can put on a suppresser since most of the once i looked at have that dimension.

If you have any other suggestions for guns throw them at me, as you can see I like lots of rails and a AR-15 style gun that is not too short.

Thank you very much for your help!

Allow me to be first. You need to be age verified before anyone will help you purchase a gun.

If you get Age Verified, there will be a fair few more retailer selection that open.
Not to mention the classifieds, full of other goodies. Most are packages, with mags, batteries, etc...

As for changing the spring. It's straight forward-ish, requiring some technical ability.
Check out www.mechbox.com for some guides.
Right now they are doing some upgrading to their services. For the time being Youtube works okay.

Just look up V2 Mechbox disassemble, as those guns all contain a V2 Mechbox.

If you want a 416 the VFC is the best going. Ditch the free charger though, it will cause you more issues than it's worth. Budget for a proper smart charger.

So i am probably going to be to excited to buy something and will not wait to get age verified

Do forum regulations allow you to help me with the spring issue.
From my understanding most CQB fields want fps around 350. So lets say I go with the VFC Hk416 what spring do i need to get to reach that fps rate, is it a m100 spring?

Thanks

Yes, an M100 labelled "M100" should be okay.

Be careful in buying springs. Many springs actually fire much harder than what their names would imply. For example, the Modify S110+ fires over 400fps, but the naming would imply 110m/s, which would suggest 360ft/sec. Not so. If you want to play it safe, an M90 will work, and the Modify S90+ also fires well under 350, thus reducing the chance that you'll be turned away at the chrono. It'll treat your gearbox better, and your RoF will likely increase.

By the way, you need to get age verified. You're about to spend a lot more money than you might need to. VFC makes fine guns, but there are many options out there.

You may be excited to be in a hurry right now, but note that opening an AEG to swap the spring is really incompatible with being in a hurry. There can be hiccups during this process, especially if someone else is doing it for you, and especially if you get a fancier gun with ambidextrous controls, etc, like many VFCs have.

Hope that helps.

But down get turned off by Ambi controls, they are nice and allow more comfortable transition from shoulder to shoulder.

Just clarification: 350 is a limit, not a goal. Nothing wrong with a CQB gun shooting in the 300-350 range.

That zombie gun you're looking at is really a re-labled Jing Gong. If you buy from either of the first two places you linked they will be able to change the spring for you, just tell them what FPS you want it to shoot. As you mentioned 350 fps is the common limit for CQB, 400fps the common limit for outdoor. I've heard many warnings to stay away from the third site you've linked to though I have no personal experience with them myself.

JG's and other chinese clone guns can be made into nice shooting guns with a relatively small investment into internal parts (and some knowledge of mechboxes)but their externals will always be inferior. A better quality brand will come with much nicer and more durable externals which are more difficult and expensive to replace, especially in this country. When I buy guns I will generally try to choose the ones that have the nicest externals and are free of proprietary parts.

Exactly. My C8A3 was custom built for indoors and shoots a "measly" 310 fps. But I dare anyone to try to beat that thing for accuracy, range and consistency. I wouldn't trade that gun for anything.
