Painting a sniper rifle
Since I have a new M700, I figured I'd show the steps I used to paint my CA M24 a couple years ago (since people seem to like the paint job, and even though it's not pron, even Droc drools over it each time he sees it!) I guess after the pics get approved they will be able to be posted here, instead of links that sometimes work, sometimes don't!!! Anyways, uploaded all these in the gallery, under Sniper.
After I got my toys on: Stock after painting it with aerospace grade Zinc Chromate Primer: Add a Rockmount "Harris Style" pivoting bipod: Ummm, just not right, too plain looking: Time to get some cedar stencils! Add some Krylon OD: Add the Krylon brown: Add some black: Add a bit more of the zinc chromate primer in spots: Add a decent coat of semi-gloss lacquer to protect the paintjob and bring out the colours: Et voila! MUCH better!!! Didn't want to have as dark of a finish as my M24, and something a bit different. Am content with it as it is, might add a bit in places, but I doubt it. Comments? |

I was going to say "nooooo, don't mess the cool black rifle!"
But now I need a smilley for an erection! The finished result is just amasing!! If I had another rifle, I'd do something very similar! Now, where is the erection smiley!? 8-) You should paint that scope now!

Looks good bud, I think I'm gonna look for some of that aerospace grade Zinc Chromate Primer next time I'm at crappy tire and put a can or two away for when I finally get my field rifle.
I like that you left it a little brighter than the M24. Should make it perfect for summer gaming. |

One day, we must organise a huge sniper contest game somewhere. I'd like to see and play with other snipers.
Not to mention drool over other people kits

Paints can be picked up at Canadian tire as far as the krylon. (in the spray paint section)
I think he told me before that he got the zinc chromate primer there also but I'm not certain of that. The cedar stencils are just cedar branches, when put over a base color and sprayed over with another color it leaves the shape of the branch in the base surounded in the secondary color. |

Thanks guys! Fixed the pics, turns out with the new forum type, you have to put the original pic (open a pic from the thrumbnail, then click on the opened pic to get the original file you uploaded).
Gonna add more brown to it (ran out) and fix up some of the mistakes. It's correct though, I used natural cedar stencils, from my tree. And no, I don't plan to paint the scope, it's a nice tactical matt finish right now. |
