fuses too low?
Ive upgraded my tm m16 ver 2 gearbox with a m120 spring (lots of other upgrades too) but ive only been able to come across 10 and 15 amp fuses... And the gun shoots for a little bit b4 the fuse blows, i like to think i shimmed and everything perfectly, and what im thinking is i need atleast a 25amp fuse?
I think if i blow a 25 then maybe something is up with my shimming or something... Am i correct in this assumption?

Should check your shimming first, and if you NEED a fuse in your gun, Canadian Tire has 20A ones in the automotive dept, 3AG 1 1/4" is the type.

Do one of two things:
- Omit the fuse - convert to a mini blade type 20A automotive fuse Mini blade fuses and holders can be found at most automotive parts stores. You don't need the waterproof kind with the cap. Alternatively, you could just use a couple female spade connectors. |

I dont like playing without a fuse, i know alot of ppl do, but i think thats insane...
This time around i paid close attention to the shimming.... I did by pass the fuse and it works fine, not odd sounds, and i get about ten shots off with the ten amp, and about 20 with a 15amp, which leads me to think i need a higher one.... I just wanted to know if this theory is sound?

The fuse only protects the wire, nothing more, and even then, chances are you have #18AWG wire in your gun, which has a rating of 16 amps in free air and 10 amps confined, so a fuse is pointless, especially a higher one, the wire will burn before the fuse blows.

wholeheartedly agree. I don't run fuses anymore unless it's part of the ASCU installed. The only AEG without an ASCU is a stockish TM AK spetznas that I use a 9.9V Life also with no fuse.

here's a somewhat related question, if you install a mosfet, is a fuse required, recommended or unnecessary?

Run 16AWG, remove fuse, all is good.
With a MOSFET no fuse is required and some of the better ones have a resettable fuse (a.k.a. thermal switch) built in. Typically for the airsoft applications a fuse is just another failure point that in unnecessary. |

so what your all saying is, if my gearbox is in order (proper shim and what not) I should be fine without a fuse...
and that the only reason my fuse is blowing is its gotta be an issue with either the shimming, or something like that inside the gearbox? so its basically impossible for my 10 and 15amp fuses to be blowing because the spring is too powerful? shit!... i hate taking apart this gun... its always something lol the wires are stock TM m16a2 ver 2 gearbox, and a 9.6nimh

I run essentially the same set up you do and I had issues blowing a 25 amp fuse until I changed to a good high torque motor. High amp draw is being caused by the motor trying to pull a heavy spring. Voltage controls rpm of the motor and amperage controls the torque. I now run 11.1v LiPo batteries, Guarder High Torque motors, M120 springs with a MOSFET and 25 amp fuses.

I was super diligent with shimming this time, and when I closed my gearbox this time I felt good, I really didnt want to go back into it again... thank you so much for easing my brain
