So after a few games with my m4, I'm thinking recon/marksman are more my thing. I, like everyone else(at least at one point) am looking at getting a (dare I say 'sniper riffle'). Obviously a TM VSR is the route, as CA m24 are overpriced in my opinion, however I have read good things about the Maruzen L96.

So here is where I ask my question:
Will someone in SW Ontario bring their riffle to a game so I can test it? I would like to feel the difference between the L96/Rem700. That and I'd like to see the range vs a standard aeg.

Note, I'm not asking to borrow it for a game, Just a few test shots, hold it for a couple mins. ;D

Every time I see people talk about the VSR-10 and the Maruzen L96, I automatically assume they're talking about the ACM clones, especially because unless I missed something these guns are more expensive than a CA M24. If this is the case, the ACM versions are horrible.

I would advise going for the M24.

I was talking about the actual Maruzen, not clones. I'd just like to know which feels better, and I guess feeling a clone would have the same results as feeling the Maruzen.

As for the tm vsr/ca m24, I would like to see the difference in accuracy and range.(versus a standard AEG, or my gbbr)

You'll probably get a bad opinion from handling the clones, at least weight wise. Performance is hit or miss also.

Basically all three guns (from the proper manufacturers) are quite good and have all great aftermarket support. As with AEGs, they can be calibrated to your demands and it's more of an aesthetic issue. Go with what you want, what fits the loadout you're going after.

I owned all three, with a Tanaka M700 standing in for the L96. The M700 was something different, but nowadays it stands out less since a lot of kids get the ACM model. The Tanaka version is a bit more expensive than the Maruzen version, especially after you factor mags, but it's still an option. Consider the ARES models too, I think they have a few gas and spring models.

The VSR and the M24 share many upgrades and perform quite well after a proper setup. Basically depends on if you want the civilian/police or military model of the Remington 700. I personally prefer the M-24, especially since it is way more heavy than the VSR. The latter feels a bit toy like, as with their shotguns.

Accuracy wise, you don't get a major performance upgrade versus AEGs. The extra FPS most fields allow might seem good on paper, but many sniper riffles perform quite well under 400 fps. Stalker has a very good couple of threads on his M24 setups. Last I checked he was shooting 380.

Good call on trying to get your hands on the guns first, I enjoyed the ergonomics of all these guns, but I see how people might have issues, especially with the L96.

Have you considered a DMR setup? How about an M14 or an SR25? In my opinion their a nice mix between Rifleman and Sniper, and you still have Semi auto for when shit hits the fan.

There are many different types of glasses, but in the end it all depends on whether you put Coors Light in it or Heineken.

It's good that you aren't trying to cheap out by buying clone. VSR10 and M24 are both good guns, lots of upgrade parts available as stated. Also said, the VSR is light and plasticky feeling, but can become a tack driver with good upgrades. The M24 is heavy cast metal with a solid composite stock. You can fall backwards with it slung on your back, have the end of the barrel catch in a Y branch of a tree 6" off the ground, it'll stop you without any damage (when I did exactly that, my scope got shifted in the rings a little bit).

One huge benefit of the M24 is the fact it takes AEG barrels and hop up rubbers, and the trigger assembly is good solid steel, adjustable, and stronger than anything, so you use a 600fps spring if you want, the sear won't break (but heavy ass'd trigger pull). The VSR needs upgraded sears above a certain velocity (its low I recall), and i've heard of guys putting them in and running the gun at 400fps and still having the upgraded sears break. Only option then is the 'it's expensive, but it's worth it' Zero Trigger.

And after a bunch of years running my M24 at 500fps w/.20, a few years ago I set it up to 395fps in order to be able to use it at a urban type game (lots of CQB), and loved it, longer range, more consistancy and accuracy with Bastard 0.36g.

So, choose your glass, and fill it with the brand of your choice.

Im going to have to "+1" with this.

The M24 and VSR10 both serve different purposes, I've used both before but prefer the TM VSR10 over all. I've found that if you're moving around a lot, the VSR10's light weight aid is good for manoeuvrability, while the M24's slightly heavier weight aids in being able to steady your gun easier.

Both take PDI parts, which are the best parts (IMO), and both can be modded to take AEG parts as Stalker mentioned

@death, I tried, but failed hard with a WE GBB. AEG's just don't do it for me.

As for TM vs CA, The CA seems the way to go, but back when I was looking, a bonestock M24 was ~800, and I've seen TM's go for far less that that.
The Triggers on the TM's seem to be a pain, but after (assuming install and tuning go well) they can be great.

I'm still curious about the maruzen L96's. although with enough time and money. I'm sure I could make a wood L96 stock for a CA/TM.

I still want to feel them ingame ;D

I've seen (in the last two months max) a retailers that stocks the CA M24s at 450$, but for the life of me I can't remember who. I looked a bit around and found a couple around 500$ right now.

Post a WTB in the classifieds, send an email to all the retailers you can find on this site, be it the M24 or the others you'll find what you want for the price you want-ish.
